Hello

Here's a few gamestyle basics and a short description on how you might begin each gamestyle. This isn't a speculation on what is expected to see in the game, just a generalization of what may be possible.

Open World

You start off dropped into the midst of battle, the other spartans yelling around you. As you land, or crash, your orders are to fend off X number of Covenant before being ordered to head to each territory over time.

As you move out, more areas are opened up to you for your discovering pleasure and convoys of friendlies, as well as enemies, give you your ammo/weapon refreshes.

Linear

We all know what linear is, you get dropped off in an enclosed 'map' or area and you go about doing the objectives ordered to you in your HUD. Countless enemies cower as you crush them out of your way.

This is the easiest campaign style to get into, though it can also be the least exciting and rewarding once you've completed the campaign the first time through.

Free Roam

You begin your game in a generic area with basic weapons. As you progress in character level, rather than campaign level, you find better weaponry and learn new skills. Similar to Open World, you have some basic objectives though no real direction you're restricted to follow.

This would be a new direction for Halo, and a step in the right direction in my personal opinion. In general, Free Roam with some form of leveling system would bring a new light to the Halo universe.

Other

If there's a gamestyle that was missed, but that could be included, add it in. No, a paragraph is not necessary, though a general idea would be helpful for the community to understand your point of view.

Which gamestyle would you like to see Reach follow?

Keep it 'flaming' free, and respect your fellow community.

Linear. Open world and Free roam are the same thing, and they did not work for ODST imo, I found it very tedious and boring having to go back and forth across the city for the missions.

I think the open world was boring because there was nothing to do except find audio logs and supply caches.
They should expand upon it in reach with more things to do which would mean more replay value.

Linear. I think that this game will cover a lot of ground; not all encased within one city, so it wouldn't be physically possible for an open world game...

I would, however, like an open world game on the scale of Oblivion or even Mass Effect for a Halo game, possibly played through the eyes of a Class II of Spartan-IIs, Spartan-IVs, or maybe even in the future of Halo 3 where you as the Chief return to discover that many things have changed in the Galaxy.

Maybe the races all have new roles... not as unified as they were in the current series.

I want it to be linear, but have more than one way to complete an objective.

What about 1 massive open world camping, and a bunch of linear mini campings where you play as marines, grunts, jackals, elites, and more

I probably didnt word it right, but I never intended the gamestyle to take place only within one city. Simply and ODST-like open-world game (where there's no leveling) would be interesting on the large-scale battles of Reach.

Go Rams and Missouri!

ODST had a great set-up. However, I'm not sure how Reach would implement and it would come off badly. ODST had this great thing set up where you must find your squad which brought on the unique flashbacks. It wouldn't work with Reach, though.
