The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.
You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.
So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

I hope to god there is no classes. Why?
10whys.
Here's one great reason: Balance.
The belief that a class based halo game would be unbalanced is fueled primarily by the fact that halo weaponry has been traditionally unbalanced. Typically half of the game's (any of the 3) is built up by lower end spammers that are then left to compete with close range supremacy weapons (sword/ shotgun), general use power weapons (rockets etc.) and then worse of all a few weapons that manage to surpass most others and range and have the added ability to deal headshot damage, which manages to cut a player's life span in half when compared to the damage still required by other weapons (halo 1 pistol/ BR/ Carbine).
-Supporters of the class based system are not looking forward to a halo where players willing handicap themselves by taking the weapon sets that include the traditionally neglected weapons, rather they look forward to a halo that fixes past mistakes and makes every weapon viable.
-Image a game where a player can handle a plasma rifle (not a dual wieldable one) look out across a map (maybe from the center upper structure on isolation to one of the bases, and feel that if you pulse your fire, maybe land some small bonuses from headshots, you can pose a lethal threat to someone at that base where once only a sniper or BR could).
-In an ideal class based halo the old hierarchy of weapons would hopefully done away with for something of a (I hate to compare games as although many feature "guns" they all use them to drastically different ends) COD4 style arrangement where weapons are not weak or powerful but rather different and while more or less capable in different circumstances still allow you a fighting chance in almost any situation.
EX: halo smg from afar vs a BR = one dead SMG player, COD4 (and many other games) SMG vs. longer range assault rifle = a potentially dead longer range assault rifle player as the SMG player is allowed to control his fire and appreciate that while he is out of his element he is still firing bullets from his weapon.
