Ok, so most of us who played Halo 1 played Slayer Pro. This consists of pistol and ar start and no radar. The Pistol was a great weapon because you could kill someone without them taking out your whole -blam!- shield (sorry for the blam, but it is necessary).

In a BR battle in H3, almost is the case (no matter how skilled they are assuming they both have some experience with the game) both players will drain each others shields and one of them will limp away.

I would like to see a new starting weapon that allows for one to kill another after he who kills is shot at first in the back, but is more skilled and so wins outright. (I know this CAN happen in Halo 3, but infrequently or only against what decently skilled player would call a legit noob.)

Now on to the melee. Every time you punch someone, because of the lunge and autoaim with the melee, he can punch you back. Sooooopar lame. Again, for emphasis, soooooooopar lame. If the melee is going to instantly take me to panic mode, then at least make it some what difficult to land. CMON.

One would think who ever landed the punch first deserves the kill, but no, sadly this is not the case online.

I suggest ALMOST no autoaim with punch, thus warranting the hefty shield beatdown.

It is not fun to be trapped in a corner or just within a stonesthrow because of that -blam!- beatdown. Like, how do you expect me to do anything in this situation but resort to using the same exact tactic because it is so -blam!- easy and shield consuming.

In conclusion, if the beatdown is going to be THAT good, make it HARD to land. Take away the massive distance it automatically covers, so no lunge at all. It should be like H1 where you can still move around when you punch, you don't get sucked into the other guy just waiting to punch u back.

The starting weapon must be something like the H1 Pistol and the BR. A skillful weapon that dominates at medium range and is effective long and short range and how effective it is, is depent on how good the player is--not, oh, i'm yay far away from that dude wielding an assualt rifle, i have no chance to kill him because of how easy it is aim that gun and how easy it is to punch with it. That's lame.

End transmission.

What im looking for in the melee system is something that will flesh out all the awesome spartan training ive been reading for years. Maybe not flying jump kicks like FEAR, but just things that can show off some martial arts.

Have you ever seen Indiana jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Remember the sword guy? He knew some fancy moves. See where that got him?

In actual combat, its not the fancy moves that count, but the ones that get the job done as quickly and simply as possible. Be it a punch or a rifle butt slam, spartans are strong enough to not worry about super martial arts.

Most of what you said I disagree with.

The starting weapon shouldn't be a weapon that is effective everywhere. The key is to give the player a fighting chance but not to give them too much power to start.

The melee lunge could be improved but it doesn't have to be removed entirely. The melee damage could be reduced a little.

All you need is a well placed grenade :)

Cant believe i read all this so im guna post on it.
the situations you put yourself in are face to face every rip. So if you want instant shot kills, play SWAT or Snipers for he who shoots first wins.
If melee is a problem, 2 melee hits kills a person face to face. Who he is faster wins, if you tie its probably because you both started spraying bullets and landed a hit at the same time, even tho its sometimes no the best, its a fair finish.

Melee helps with the lunge because you run at the same speeds. So if you where chasing someone for a back assault or jumped out of a corner for it, it's more helpful to assassinate than it is an issue in the end.

OH AND The H1 Pistol could be used as a 3 shot from across any map(if you played on Xbox Connect you would know of the epic 3 shot kills across Hang em' High base to base). In fact almost all players preferred it over the sniper because of the ammo amount and its accuracy.

I am speaking only of how the melee acts in gameplay, not the looks of it, but--hey--a kungfu 117 sounds pretty sick. Oh snap, jumping off walls would be ninja like. Also controlling how high u jump by how hard you press the jump button----ohhhhhh

but wouldn't you agree it is wayy too easy to land a punch? Completely taking the fun out of close range combat because landing the one-hitter-quitter is almost guaranteed.

I cant agree nor disagree with that. its just that a little too much lore has been built up around spartan agility to have them running around at 5 mph throwing simple punches

yes. to take your idea of no autoaim further, a hooking kick would be much more easier to hit an enemy from left to right, but could be avoided by crouch. that was just a quick example, i know something more subtle could be thought of.

They actually run at about 17 mph if you compare them to warthogs...
