Your new pelican looks... odd... maybe make the wings a bit shorter and wider?

Well its not finished yet but its a Pelican variant, it covers the same mission role as todays pave low and pave hawk.
I didnt think the existing pelican was fast and manoeuvrable enough and didn't seem to have any stealth attributes. This model will be responsible for the covert extraction of special forces, namely ODST's after they have dropped in and finished the mission. Its weaponry consists of a single tactical high energy maser in the nose and a mounted machine gun in the rear bay. It can carry 10 troops seated and twenty standing as well as an external mission specific container or vehicle. It has a crew of three, two pilots and a gunner/loadmaster.
It has a narrower profile than the standard pelican as similar to the ODST pod it drops through the atmosphere at incredible speed to extract ground personnel before making a quick burn into high orbit where it is usually picked up by its carrier, usually a light fast cruiser or frigate.
It still needs work, the retractable sheath that folds around the laser to increase aerodynamics and stop buffeting upon reentry through an atmosphere. Making the rear landing gear look more stable, unwarapping and texturing, detailing (havent started that at all yet).

oooh! i do like how the newest additions to your solar explorer. Once again i wish you luck.

On another note, i'd like to show off my newest :)Deviantart Gallery check it out when you've got the time. Also, i started to use Vray, i really like it. I'm not good a rendering yet though, i need some practice. I like your pelican too, although it seams familiar from somewhere.

Thanks! nice site.
Yeah the pelican is a rebuild of my old pave hawk pelican model but its a completely different configuration. Ive got it in my thread ovr at SFM but I haven't posted it anywhere else on the web and its an original design be me so you couldn't have seen it anywhere else.
You will get there, are you using the trial version of vray or the real thing?

I think that your pelican looks better than the Halo version.

Dont worry i dont take constructive ctitisizm the wrong way I give enough of it out around here lol:
Yes they are antenna! Well the cargo freighters I have made are big rectangles but the ship you are referring to from the site has been cancelled. It is a docking station but more importantly its a shipyard and refit station so those exposed sections are needed as they are the scaffold. I will color it and add lights font worry but its a big model and will be a -blam!- to render im leaving that till last lol.
Anyway some updates on the pelican.

No matter how many seals are killed by sharks a year, it never seems to be enough :D

You might want to add some texture to it. That would make it look pretty cool.

Great! I love the orb camera thing under the cockpit, it looks very realistic. I love all the changes you've done! I know its especially hard to work with extracted models because of all the extra meshes. It just need some work on the top of it. Keep it up :)

yeah it was so much of a nightmare but ive begun to remodel the whole thing piece by piece in SU by myself. Right now its about 50% halo 1 model and 50% SU model. The whole cockpit section and forward engines as well as the cargo bay where easy to replicate but im having trouble with the rear section as I havent installed my plugins since upgrading my OS.

See most people on the 3D warehouse just delete all those unnessacery lines but when you render you can still tell its not a SU model. My way takes an age, basically you take the furthest points or each section make a map then try to model it again side my side in SU taking measurements to stay accurate. It doesnt take that long subdivide and smooth and weld make it a breeze. I reckon by next week this model will be done 100% SU and textured and rendered fingers crossed!. Oh by the way the orb isnt a camera its a tactical high energy Maser, I thought every1 knew what they where!!! lol!

Thanks for the comments anyway!

You got to remember though, this isn't a helicopter, it is more like a sleek osprey, it's going to be a little wide, though it doesn't have to be huge, although it needs something on the sides more than ostrich wings.

Nah I did a physics test and the thrusters are in a good position to give maximum maouverability and stability. Plus the smaller it is the less the target profile of the ship, sometimes when the ODST's have podded in and caused a s**tstorm it needs to go in fast under heavy AAA the normal pelican had a bigger profile as it was a chunkier heavy classic 'dropship' this isnt a dropship it covers the pavehawk role of today so it needs fill these criteria:
1.Fast
2.Low Profile
3. Packs a punch when its needed thats why it has a THEM (Tactical High Energy Maser)

It needs to drop from high orbit at nearlly 90 degrees and have a quick turn around time. The last thing it needs is to engage in combat, normally it would go under the radar and the enemy would never know it was there however sometimes things go wrong hence the THEM.

Anything on the sides would be more of a hindrance than a help, as long as its stable it dont matter!

Note: Made a mistake before I meant to use a Maser but was using a laser by stereotype.

The second one looks much nicer than the first now that I've looked at it for awhile, though looking at it from the top always is strange.

You dont have to worry about that its been going on for a few years. As I get better I go back and re-do the models so nothing ever stops. Ive released the unfinished ODST POD on the google 3d warehouse if anybody is interested.

Pelican looks cool, when are you getting textures for it?

  • 12.15.2009 6:37 AM PDT

http://liam887halo.carbonmade.com/

Ill be making textures when the model is all finished. Im either going to just apply materials to different areas of geometry or actually unwrap the whole model and create a hand painted map in photoshop. Will have to see. Keeping the model as low poly as possible to allow easy mapping if i decide to go that way!

I think you should post a link to everything. It is so awesome.

And to the guy who can't make 3D models as well, don't worry man. When I first got photoshop, I didn't know a thing, but I just practiced, and I got better.

That is all you have to do, just practice. Then one day you can make 3D models for video games =)

When i got photoshop i didn't know anything... now i can draw pretty damn good but nothing else... filters are not my strong point... i prefer hand made effects, they're made with more Wuv <3\
Anybody wanna teach me some advanced photoshop stuff?

Filters are for fools. Dont use filters whatever you do! I see so many people on here with halo pics with stupid filters applied and it looks crap.
The internet can teach you all you need to know look at lynda training its pretty much the best you can get.

You will find some incredibly advanced stuff on here give it a look.

Photoshop Advanced

And if you want to go really advanced get hold of a graphics tablet.

Got a tablet :D
I love it, my family has no idea how to use it when they use my comp XD.
It's the best.
Ok, no filters. But if you do some editing to parts filtered you can make it look alright.
