Yeah dont get me wrong there is nothing worng with filters and they are handy such as the blur filters etc but when you see some chump put a cutout or pencil filter on a photo and says 'look at my picture' it always has me laughing lol.
Well you should check out lynda they got tuts for nearly everything! Ive got a lot of stuff from it for most of the adobe CS3 & 4 suite its very handy!
A lot of good 3D tuts there also.

thanks, yeah it frustrates me when someone just uses blur or one filter without modifying the image heavily and they say, "hey, i worked so hard on this", then everyone is so amazed that they clicked (probably) only 3 times to create that image.
Then they get pissed cos you point it out.
Thanks for the advice, you used flash before? I love that program but i don't know how to make 3d images... i'm guessing i need 3d software first...

Yeah just finished building a website in flash for a uni module left it to the last min and ended up doing it in a week lol, wasn't pretty:
WEBSITE
You can create 3D objects in PS and Fl but they are not true 3D you are best off getting some real 3D software. Try Sketchup if you want immediate results its the easiest to get to grips with and you dont need a supercomputer to run it.

  • 12.16.2009 6:04 AM PDT

Sorry but i despise sketchup, whilst it's easy, it's a little too easy. I'm looking for something a little more advanced but understandable for one such as me who hasn't learnt super advanced tech and stuff. Cos i've DL'd a few and they don't make any sense and i merely want to draw a line.

Cool website, pic gets a little old though :P

well you wont find one SU is unique in its interface, and whats wrong with easy, the pro version is $500 its not a toy its a tool and a good one in the right hands. I use 3dsmax alongside it but still prefer to do my modelling in SU and render animate in max, its much faster. There is not much more you can do it max that you cant do in Su, of course you can make more complex geometry and better organics but Su is still good work. All the models in this thread where done in SU.

You could try blender its pretty easy to get used to.

'easy' and 'easy to get used to' are two completely different things.

A new interface can be a daunting prospect but luckily the blender community has great support, if you have used 3D apps before I cant see it taking very long to get used to it. Its much easier than a pro package such a Lightwave for example now that s a nightmare to get used too.

Anyhow here s the LANCE CLAS FFG all done made and textured and put into a nice little sheet for your viewing pleasure over 4000px wide. Shark Pattern rules by the way...enjoy!

I remember using quite a good 3D tool in design tech, easy and effective. Sadly others in my class lacked the skill set to use it properly.
Lol.

So, how far in to the animation are you or is it done?

(sorry if i missed that piece of info)

The ODST pod and hero version are completed as well as the numerous space ships, once the city is done I can begin the animation. At least a month before models are done.
The Frigate two posts above is the ship that will drop the ODST pods and Spec Ops Pelicans.

Wow you are quite the role model.
:)
I'm actually pinged because i'm getting unreal engine and wanna make a halo fan-game and my friends are like: "so the game will be done in two weeks right?"
I mean, they clearly have no common sense or a true grasp of time consumption e.t.c.
Anyway, i just wanna know that you're my role model :D
And are you good at scripts, animation e.t.c.
Cos i know you're amazing at modeling!
(no not in that way! :P )

Anyway did more work on the new mombassa scene but have changed its setting to my updated 'current' halo universe, so 10 years after the end of halo 3. Anyway its still an offshore facility but also a shipyard and re-fit/re-arm station. Ive started work on the shipyard facilities and done some close up renders.
The shipyards where inspired by the halo short where you see a cruiser coming down to a planet facility for re-arming, I wanted a very industrious look, expect a lot of smoke etc in the final shots. Anyway images are all big 1600*1200 so enjoy and tell me what you think!

wow, you put in a lot of (detail? work?).
I'd love to see it when it's finished and has some textures!

what game?

  • 12.16.2009 3:59 PM PDT

"Find The Bomb?!
Find The Bomb?!
I'm Looking For The Flag!
What The Heck Is Assualt!?"

*Jumps for joy*

Looks great and detailed.

Do you ever release the files of these?

I just took a look at the slip space speed, and was slightly disappointed in the speed. At that speed, it would take 91 years to cross the galaxy =P

But hey, I guess that isn't too bad right?

By the way, I am thinking about creating a ship over the Christmas break in Google sketchup, do you have any tips?

More specifically, a small transport ship, kind of like this, except Halo.

Well what do you mean by advanced? Like this?

That just requires changing the lighting by using levels, contrast, curves, etc.

I mean, then there is this, which I can't even begin to comprehend on how to make.

yeah but the galaxy is big you know lol! The humans in halo have only colonised a tiny fraction of it. Even the forerunner where not extra-galactic they stayed within our galaxy, its possible they sent probes out and the ark was pretty far from the rim but im guessing that was a one off.
Well if you want tips you should head over to sketchucation.com and check out some tutorials. The star trek shuttle from the new movie should be an easy starting project ive seen a great tutorial somewhere for SU models ill post it here when I find it!

EDIT: Found it, this is a good tut for learners there are more on sketchucation!

Tutorial

I might write a tutorial tomorrow and upload it if you want for the ST shuttle you posted. Just a quick model, nothing fancy but it will help you get the basics!

I don't want to make a Star Trek model per say. I want to make the Halo equivalent to it. But I thank you for the link and types.

Been doing more work on the shipyard, some transport infrastructure and piping.

NAVAL SHIPYARD

  • 12.18.2009 11:54 AM PDT

Wow, complex piping.
And if you would like to work on a game then i can wait until i get that game software. We could partner in animation and maybe models. Depends...
Though i would love to work with you on some sort of project.

Any free programs (for apple mac) that i could import my models (from sketchup) into and animate them?
And i haven't seen it but is there a tool for skeletons in sketchup?

  • 12.18.2009 12:48 PM PDT

http://liam887halo.carbonmade.com/

Nah sorry im already working on two games at the moment and this halo project on top of that im modelled out lol.
You need sketchup pro to export as for the normal SU I have no idea, for mac tho blender is the best option probably. I dont know what you mean by skeletons but if you mean rigging then no there are no animation options.

  • 12.18.2009 1:31 PM PDT

K thanks.
I think i might try get 3D Max or something. Maybe Maya.

they are far from free my friend but thousands of pounds!
However you can get a student autodesk package for £150-200.
Might as well try blender if you want something free!
