i tried blender but i don't know how to make my own models?
It just comes up with this random square?
Is there a line tool or something, like in google sketchup?

Its a different type of modelling if you cant get your head around blender you have no chance with something like max, maya or lightwave. Sketchup is unique in the way you model if you get another programme you will have to learn a new style. Try some video tutorials they will be more help than I will be.

Ok thanks. I'll do that
:)
good luck with your work.

You better close this sig when your done.

Your stuff looks amazing! O.O

You could really make models for video games, you'll have other artists to give you textures then. ;)

Unless you like making the full thing yourself.

yeah but if you want to get a job you generally need to know how to do it yourself!

  • 12.19.2009 7:19 AM PDT

Yes you have to cover all aspects of it.
Frustrating. However, oddly, i love coding.

  • 12.19.2009 8:13 AM PDT

Well I think that there are 3 jobs:

1) Makes the 3-D model

2) Textures it

3) Animates it.

Now whether one person has to do all 3 is beyond my knowledge.

maybe in a working environment, but having a load of untextured still models in your portfolio isnt going to get you much work is it? And you should have an understanding of all the processes anyway.
To get a job in the industry a degree is a must have and you dont have people doing work for you there do you. There are many occasions where one person will do all three, at least the first two anyway, not all studios are as big as bungie you know!

I'm like a rain drop in a storm.

Wow, you've really done an amazing job. Every time I visit this thread there's something that catches my eyes and I stare in awe. I hope things are going well for you. Keep up the great work.

Acting like pre and post pubescent idiots who feel confident behind Internet anonymity? Even though it's applicable to the majority of our members, we ask that they not do that here.

Your work looks cool. That being said, most of these assets would work better in a movie. Do you have other stuff showcasing what you've done while working within a certain content creation pipeline (like Unreal's)?

Holy crap! Incredible work man! Really.

Your stuff looks like it would be better suited in a movie. Have you ever put any of your work into a game like Unreal, Halo, or the Source engine?

Are you looking for a job in the game industry or just CG in general?

no the way I work could go into movies or games or any sort of multimedia is doesnt matter. I have no wishes to go into game development myself so ive never bothered to put any models in a game environment, most of them are too high poly too anyway.
Im not looking for a job at all haven't even thought about it to be honest and dont plan on either. Working in Ibiza over the summer and then one year left in uni, ill worry about jobs then.

But if you are so good, why don't try to get into the movie business?

I like animating in 3D, especially the camera :D
Is blender like other 3D software or is it unique like SketchUp?

for practice mainly, with every model or project I do I get better an better and my skillset improves. Im doing an animation with this halo project and hopefully will be able to use it for an upcoming module in Uni.
