Yet another amazing work by Mr Liam Keating. I really admire your new "hammer" frigate but there is just one thing that i do not like about the design. On the hull over the engines (near the UNSC logo) the geometry bends into a triangle shape that doesn't really flow with the overall design of the ship. Not to mention that the UNSC logo also losses its shape because of it. Everything else is flawless. I think if you just make that part go on horizontally rather than bend downwards, it will look much better. Please tell me if you don't know what i mean.

yeah I know what you mean I haven't really started on the engine block yet, if you have been following my halo threads over on SFM you will see I have explained that!
Yeah it was bugging me about the crest getting distorted but I was just placing it there because I was impatient lol. Ive uploaded it to the warehouse if you want to download it maybe you can build on it to make your own version? Ive gone into detail mode now its already gone up to 19MB!
Im keeping the triangle shape you mention but its far from finished dont worry when its all done it will make sense and 'fit in'.
Just search for liam887 or halo frigate on the 3D warehouse it will show up somewhere and you can do what you want with it.

Ive had nearly 40,000 hits on the scifi meshes thread lets hope this one is just as successful.

Lol, ok i'll build my version of it (with proper given credit ofcourse) but i'm also making a gunship frigate myself, i'll upload an image somewhere sometime today when i get some more progress on it. I haven't been on SFM recently but i'll be sure to check it out ;)

I dont really understand about the news thing, what would I write? Im not too interested about popularity im just sharing my work with fans, maybe if I organise some pics ill do it!
Could you explain to me what it is?I was thinking of doing a render of every model ive done so far for the halo project (over 100) and having a massive post, so everybody can see all my work in one place what do you think?

On second thoughts on the first page of this thread I will list all ships and have a link to images of each one, yeah cant wait to see your own variant of the frigate using my template good luck!

Lookin' great so far. The template made them very orgnaized and clean looking. You should also include all the other profile sheets (like the lance frigate and the complete frigate images).

If you create a news article, you can say something like "UNSC Shipyard database completed" then describe your projects briefly and bring a link to this forum for people to check them out.

The situation was different when my fan fic first got moved here. It was a nightmare getting it noticed amongst all the art threads.

Posting a new article is very similar to posting a thread, Its better to be concise and get to the point. Sometimes it could be as easy as just posting a link and then explaining what it is. Look through the previous posts to get examples. Its very simple, you don't need walls of text or anything.

Yo know Liam, I could create a 'montage' of all the ships once you finish them. I would just display each ship for about 5 seconds, and play whatever music you want during the video.

Then you could just submit that to the Bungie news feed.

Thanks for the offer TW InKoGnIto but I could do that myself pretty quick, but if I did it I would do it in 3D with the ships rotating so you can see them from all angles!

@ Buggy Virus, yeah if by Zeppelin you mean airship then yeah it is an airship, A zeppelin is a type of airship manufactured in a certain way, this 'airship' is much different but still relies on lighter than air gas for flight.

@ random no337 you can, dont think I was born with the ability to do this I only started when I was 17.

Got a few updates anyway forgot to post anything here was too busy on scifi meshes having a discussion about the MAC guns and if they produce recoil, any input?

Anyway here is the latest:

By the way the large 'fins' around the end of the main gun are reverse-engineered covenant technology. As the covenant could guide there plasma the UNSC can now guide the MAC rounds for greater accuracy over longer distances.
Iva also added smaller point defence turrets, 21 in total and 7 heavy point defence turrets. You can also see groups of thrusters all around the ship, and there is a little guy by the bridge to get a sense of scale.

Anyway, i wish i was as good as you. I tried modeling, but i'm terrible at it. absolutely terrible!
Maybe i need more polygons?
I dunno, just my models don't seem smooth enough!

UV Sphere? No there is no UV mapping here not at this stage!
What do you mean more polygons? You mean you need ot make a higher poly model? I usually just make a base simple mesh and add the details and refine as I go on.
What software are you using, if you bevel the edges and maybe add some subdivision you should be fine!

Sorry, it's just that the sphere like object in front of the bridge looks like a UVsphere from blender. My bad.
and yes i need to make a higher polygon model.
subsurf just screw up my model and makes every part in between a point dip downwards.
I prefer just making higher polygon models, though i'm not too good.
But i am improving with every new model, however no matter how many polygons i make, it never seems as smooth as the games i play, is that because they have textures that make it feel more 3D. You know, anti-aliasing and stuff?
I dunno what i'm talking about really but i'm guessing it's because the textures have shading and e.t.c. to add more depth and stuff to the models.

I dont use blender to model, All this is done in sketchup when its finished ill refine it in max and render in vray, thats my usual workflow.
Its not the amount of polygons that makes a model smooth but the way you model, you can have a low poly smooth model in fact most game models if not all are low poly, Textures can make a model look amazing even if its low poly, using bump maps and texture baking are a big help.
Anti ailsing is a process to sharpen up the edges when rendering you dont have this process when modelling its just for rendering.
Your right, textures and shading do add more depth to the models but you can still do a lot with pure geometry.

Yay, bump mapping. Sorry, i just like it a lot. Wanted to take a pic of my sis's face and import it then bump map (i think that's what bump mapping is :( )

But yeah, do i have to create my own textures?
