Its difficult to get a 50 on your first account in 3... and the 2nd accounts only made it even harder for firsts

lol did it in the first version of the h3 mm system and got it at the rank lieutent which i think took around 50 60 exp
its not to make it harder for the 1st.. i know alot of people and the majority of the people make 2nd acc are to sell them

The legend lives on.

Hypermnesia n An exceptionally exact or vivid memory, especially as associated with certain mental illnesses.

Sapphire.

Halo 3's ranking system was fine. The highest skill of 50 needs to be extended to 100, IMO.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

IMO the Halo2 ranking system was not anything special. It was a point system that issued and removed an undetermined amount of points based on win/loss. It was very easy to "grind" a level on this system and for the most part rank was a reflection of time played, not "skill" (I use the term loosly).

Not to say that high ranking people in Halo2 weren't good, but there was a lot of people in the 35-45 range that got there on one trick, PP/BR, and a whole lot of playing. Halo3's trueskill tried to actually determine skill, and the system made sense until people started to manipulate it with multiple accounts. I will agree that the curve to deciding the skill seemed a little soft, but that doesn't mean the system itself is weak.

huh? i dont think halo 2 is time based, there are plenty of people who put a good amount of time into it but were still maybe a 30. Halo 2 was based on a certain amount of wins to go to the next level. then the amount of wins need was increased so you need those to level up

Halo 3 is time based becasue if you get what is it 1200xp you are considered in visible rank a 50 which is a general
but also you could be on a win streak and level up each game you win

Halo 2's true skill ranking system is excellent for Halo 2. Halo 3's ranking system is awesome for Halo 3 And, Halo:Reach's ranking system will be awesome for Halo:Reach. You know why? I will tell you. Bungie is making it! Case closed!

Why doesn't this guy work for Bungie? His ideas, paired with the OP, are things that make you wonder "Why hasn't this been thought of already?". A 50 should be nearly impossible to get. It is the Maximum rank, the pinnacle of achievements, and every 5th player you see in H3 has a Highest Skill of 50. That's retarded. I feel like I was pretty good at H2, played it every day from Day 1, up until the H3 beta, and I never saw a 40 next to my name. But I kept playing, trying to get better and raise that number that so many get their jollies off to.

This is why boosting is such a huge problem. When it's so easy to get to 50, what is there left to do except exploit the system?

[edit] Meant to quote fifthderelicte, my bad.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Halo 2's Ranking system for EXP: Absolutely. I want credit for each point of damage I deal, each objective facet I accomplish.

Halo 2's Ranking system for Trueskill: If Bungie could have done that with Halo 3, they would have to save time and smooth the transition.

Trueskill works differently, so they use a different one. And it works, barring boosters and cheaters.

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

Hmm... How about, no ranking system at all.

Always check if theres bog roll first

All I hope for really is just a greater correlation in the skill:rank ratio to be honest.
Basically, just make it harder to reach each level.

Like it's already been said, a 50 is the absolute pinacle achievement of Halo 3 multiplayer. Yet I have friends who never got past 35 on Halo 2 in 3-4 years of playing that have gotten a 50 in a day or two.

Although everyone likes to think they're an expert and I'm sure Bungie are no slacks on the matter.

It should be a mix. It should be a linear progress system, but it shouldn't be as punishing as halo 2's. Win and a loss cancel, win +1, loss -1.

Terrible idea. If I'm a level 5, and my opponents are level 10s, I deserve to go down in rank because I lost? At least with trueskill the expectation is that if someone ranked much higher than mean beats me, its no suprise, because it is expected, so my rank won't go down as much.

Besides, all this means is that you need to win 50 more games than you lose and you get a 50.
