Subject: A New Rankings-system for Halo: Reach

Go Rams and Missouri!

I should have expected a Colonel Grade 3 with a 1.03 K/D to make a thread complaining about the skill system. You are good, but not great. You are a Colonel. You don't deserve to be any higher. The system is there so that you are matched up with people of similar skill to make a fair match. If everybody could be a Generals, you'd not only have the small percentage of bought Generals, you'd also have players of a Colonel skill level (or even a Staff Captain) who don't play well and need to be carried.

Why are we losing?

I think the H2 ranking system would suffice.

Yup, nice and easy. Win 2-3 games in a row- rank up. Lose 2-3 games in a row- rank down.

Do you really care? you can't automatically see my signature anyway.

It sounds like this could work, but I think it needs to be simplified a bit. It seems a little too complicated right now.

Also, I think that COD4 has an excellent ranking system and Bungie should pick up a few things from it. I've never once gotten frustrated in COD's matchmaking, where as in Halo 3 I've felt like throwing my controller at the wall...

i dislike the exp system

it basically makes you not want to work as a team, it's like "nah i don't want to get the flag im busy sniping to bring my exp up"

i do like the idea of special titles, and i like the different ranks for the covenant players, instead of general you'd get divine wind, or the cleanser or something along those lines.

That's a fallacy, attacking a person instead of the topic. Congratulations, you've just proved how ignorant you are and how you have absolutely no place making arguments among civilized people.

Just about all the Bungie employees who play the game actively are Colonels and Commanders; that must mean they don't have good ideas for this game and have no idea what they're doing: This is where your logic fails. You want to talk K/D ratios? I'm a colonel, and have a higher K/D than you, the mighty all knowing general.

On the actual topic, changes definitely need to be made to the ranking system. The current one just doesn't make sense: It goes under the assumption that your entire team knows what it's doing, which completely discourages playing with anyone who isn't your friend. You're punished for having the rotten luck of getting a bad group, which permanently reflects on your progression. Even if you yourself are good at the game, if you team sucks, apparently you suck too.

the ranking system should be based more along a players personal skill than the overall team because of the problem with some players just sitting back an hopeing to get something because everyone else did the work and the team won.

As for capture the flag games and the like, then yes the current ranking system does work out well.

The idea for titles is actually a really good idea, however the only problem i see happening with it is the fact that sooner or later someone who is horible at snipeing will get the sniper title, so rather than it being based on kills with the weapon, there would need to be a way to have a running average for each player when it comes to the weapons. Think of it as a batting average like in baseball and the title could be taken away from a player if they fail to keep their average to the standard.

Now what i definitly agree with is that the covenant should have thier own unique ranks rather than shareing the unsc ranks, the only problem i see happening with it however is what happens if someone changes what side they are playing as.

the h2 ranking system was and is too susceptible to derankers.

So is the H3 system, more so even, and so is any other ranking system out there and the one's to come. Deranking is virtually impossible to stop.
The only way to Derank in halo 3 is to quit repeatedly in halo 2 all you have to do is suicide over and over and over. suiciding to a lower level is alot easier than quiting to a lower level. especially since at least in halo 3 if you delevel from a 40 you can only get to about a level 30. in halo 2 you could be a 35 and delevel to a 1.

Wrong. You can suicide in H3 as well, only in Team Doubles I believe though. As for the other playlists, if you want to derank all you have to do is charge the enemy players and give them kills. You can derank as low as you wish in H3, it just takes time, and it's even more convenient because the way the Trueskill system works, you won't have to worry about ranking up quickly when you decide to play instead of derank, which makes it so you don't have to go all the way back to one, you can just sit and chill in the mid 20's.

Poof Monkey, You truly are a noble member!!!

To unseen blade I just want to say that you haven't read my post. or didn't understand it at least. second accounters are people who couldn't get there 50 in the first run. As I explained, your skill is used to put you against players which are as good as you. They got stuck with their skill, meaning they were placed against others which were probably as good as they are. "But, hey, what's this? I can't become a general? I want to be a general!!" is what the second accounter thinks. They came to know that you could rank up more easy with less exp.
they start a new account pwn newbs and than quit to prevent there exp from going to high. eventually they get ther 50 (which they shouldn't have) and start to standbye to become a general as soon as possible.

I still don't know why you think I would complain about the ranksystem. In fact I do not complain at all, I just giving my vision on how it could be improved. When you looked at my stats, Did it seemed like I want to be a general? nope don't think so.

As for the title thingie. It is right that people will eventually get titles they don't deserve. it something that hadn't came up in my mind yet.
maybe you should get a certain amount of kills in a certain amount of time, which could be days or just in matches.
How many time you spend carrying the weapon in a game?
it's more difficult than I thought to balance this out.

Were it so easy.

How about we just wait and see what it will be like?
