"I was born with Halo, live with Halo...die with Halo."
Bungie forever7 <3
Guide to Canon in the Halo Universe

Im a Bungie veteran. I have and always will serve them well.

Killing Elites was the best action in Halo. Honestly, Brutes are cool to kill but back in Halo CE, elites where the "almighty" beasts and they still will be. I really do not want brutes in Reach. I really wants Elites again.

Big Team Battle Multiflag/Slayer on Standoff/Valhalla/Sandtrap/Avalanche = Win

Don't be silly. Thel'Vadam isn't your average Elite.

And you got it wrong.

Arbiter/Elite Zealots/Johnsons Sniper/343 Guilty Spark Dialogue/ beats Tartarus.

If you've ever told someone, "Haha, you suck!" think about it like this: you can press buttons more effeciently than they can! Whoop-dee-doo!

I don't think brutes should be in it because it would screw up the timeline.

So brutes just magically joined the covenant during the events of halo 2 even if they fought in Harvest, the war before reach.

i -blam!- hate ret-cons

brutes were only introduced into the covenanat late, so why all of a sudden we're seeing brutes everywhere is beyond me.

Elites should have had a greater influence in ODST
and should be the Majority, if not the ONLY one of the two in Reach.

Personally i think brutes were a stupid idea, not from a gameplay PoV but from a Lore/Fluff/Background PoV

Ummm, the Brutes were not introduced late to the Covenant...hell, they're the ones that started the war against Humanity.

Elites are better. Brutes are monkeys with guns. Elites are intelligent beings capable of creating a sword made of pure energy. Brutes made... a hammer.

Last I checked, Gravity Hammer vs Sword = Bulltrue.

Arbiter vs. tartarus who wins?
I say Arbiter

Halo 2 ending. =P

Refresh my memory, didn't the arbiter got help from MC to beat Tartarus?

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

No, MC was on the Dreadnought, and the Arbiter and Johnson were on Delta Halo.

Wort Wort Wort Forever...FTW!

Bacon

I could be fine with them in multiplayer but I doubt they would ever be in the campaign

Exalted is considered "the highest" because you can't get any bans or warnings of any kind for quite a long time, which is harder than just being a member for a long time.

Win.

I never minded the switch to fighting Brutes for story purposes. Along the same lines of thought (story purposes), we better be fighting Elites this time around.

Brutes better mind their business.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

They were reduced to a security roll becuase they failed at Harvest. They would not be present at all at Reach since that was a fullscale invasion.

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

Brutes could be something like Hunters. You only see them about 5 times during the game.

  • 10.13.2009 9:31 AM PDT

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

Brutes are actually more varied than elites.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

Well, the books say the Brutes attacked Reach, but I hope both Elites and Brutes will be put in this game.

-Dom-

I agree with this.

I'd like Elites to be the main enemy, but I definately think Brutes should be encountered every now and then. I personally think most of you in this thread are being a bit optimistic about Elites. When I play Halo 2 on Normal, the Elites are no more challenging than the Halo 3 Brutes on Normal.

Bungie should fix the "armour break-off" feature, their AI and the strength of their shields. Then they'd be great. Oooh! And also, make their armour the same steel colour of their vehicles.

P.S. Brutes for MP. ;)

  • 10.13.2009 9:49 AM PDT

I'd like to see more elites than brutes, but having the occasional group of brutes kicking your ass up close with elites backing them up from farther back with plasma rifles and carbines would be freaking epic.

But their weapons at the very least belong in multiplayer. No brutes mean no bruteshots means no bruteshot jumping using the mongoose to get 30 feet into the air so you can noscope people in the head means no goosetages.

And there would be no spikers. ...I will hold you personally accountable if there are no spikers.

The mauler can burn in hell though.

Hey, why always posting "elites OR brutes"? Why not "elites AND brutes"? That's what I'd like to see in Reach, both species fighting together against the UNSC.

They will need the pros of both species to even think of taking on a squad of five spartans.

Halo 3 was to easy in my opinion because really the only challenging long range enemy was the flood pure form. Jackals with sniper rifles and carbines might be nasty, but a single headshot takes them out. What we need is a shielded long range combatant that effectively takes cover instead of standing on a tree branch out in the open in a crouch. We need elites back, using their plasma rifles and carbines, they support the brutes who are by nature a rushing close range combatant.

Why didn't they put the elites into Halo 3: ODST? They wanted to save them for the most epic confrontations in the Halo series in Halo Reach.

  • 10.13.2009 10:11 AM PDT

I am not a pro in halo story, but in odst they were against each other. What do you say if sometimes in the game you see elites and brutes fighting each other. Write me if you think I am wrong.

Brutes were part of the Covenant long before Reach. In Halo 1 you fight Elites and not brutes because the Fleet that followed the POA was an elite controlled fleet i.e. no brutes. However that does not mean that the hundreds of ships that attacked Reach were all elite controlled. Also bear in mind that the Chief first encounters Brutes on the Unyielding Heirophant after Reach was glassed but he didnt fight on the surface of Reach which would explain why he hadnt seen brutes at that point. The Spartans who did fight on the ground only fought in a small part of a planet wide battle. All in all there is plenty of room in there to have brutes in Reach without breaking canon. Im not saying they will but if they wanted they could.
