Lets talk and see which vehicle : Pelican / Phantom : fellow gamers think should be put on Halo Reach Multiplayer or Campaign :: You Decide what you think

Worst idea ever...http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=8664824

There is no way a Pelican or a Phantom would EVER work in multiplayer. It would be a flying tank, 10 times stronger than the way overpowered Hornet. There would be absolutely no purpose for it in multiplayer considering Halo's gameplay. Even on a map the size of Sandtrap it would have no use. What's the point of troop transport in a multiplayer setting?
Maybe, if you all are lucky, they'll include a mission in the campaign where you can drive it. Other than that I think you're out of luck. I for one, don't care about driving the Pelican or Phantom so it doesn't affect me either way.

A campaign mission would be great but Bungie would have to make a mission involving driving the pelican for a while for example
On Halo Combat Evolved on the level Halo you drove a warthog for pretty much the whole level should pretty much be a good example for a campaign mission involving the pelican.

In Halo 2 on the Arbiter you drove a banshee in a dogfight with a phantom
why not make a mission like that but you are the one driving the big vehicles like the pelican or the phantom instead of the banshee

so good idea

the elephant was a troop transport in multiplayer. and what they could do is make a pelican slower than a hornet and less turning ability. and a transport would work good for ctf(1 or 2 defend the base, the rest hop in and invade. also, they could make a level like boarding action in halo CE, only on a larger scale and instead of teleporters, have vehicles and have one human side with hornets and a pelican, and another with banshees and a phantom default.

oh also, in adition to what i've already suggested, if they have a pelican/ phantom in a land based map, they would be able to pick up and transport smaller vehicles like warthogs or ghosts and drop em off for teammates in matchmaking.

  • 10.12.2009 4:54 PM PDT

No, because people would just use them for splattering.

How can you hijack a Pelican/Phantom?

This is easy enough to fix. On Sandtrap there are invisible walls that keep the elephant from going off course, this could be done with the pelican so it can't go too close to the ground. But the pelican won't be going fast enough to splatter anyone anyway

like i said before, they could go slower so that they cant splatter and if they go to low, you could jump on the front window and smash it in, or jump in the back, kill the passengers and then kill the driver, then fly it yourself, or if it can carry a vehicle on the back, steal the vehicle and jetison it and drive away in an epic action sequence, or just jump out but theres no fun in that

First, you need to make the Pelican/Phantom able to go close to the ground. how else would teammates get in it?

Second, you can just have enemies able to enter the vehicle like teammates, except they kill you instead.

Third, I don't want them to be in multiplayer, the maps would need to be huge. I like the idea of having a campaign level where you fly them, something like Halo where you go around rallying scattered marines.

Multiplayer: None. There is no way you can balance them and maintain the core Halo elements in one game.

Campaign: Sure.

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

The only way either vehicle will appear in multiplayer would be if the game suddenly went for a more "Battlefield 1942"-ish feel than reduced the worth of individual players/ small encounters to urge focus on large (like full campaign map sized) scale conflicts.
That or they make some AI controlled vehciles that shuttle players around some of the larger maps.
I could get on board for the latter but I am not sure I would ever come to truly love the former of those ideas as I have never really liked the feeling Battlefield 1942-ish games give me (I always feel as if such games lack the level of team coordination to really make such experiences special. Heck even BTB, being one of my favorite game options, has the problem of the inevitable AFK players and in general micless players who wander off just to do their own thing.)

well if there are walls then how are you going to land close enough to the ground so you can pick up troops?

The Elephant is not a troop transport vehicle, it is a mobile base. No matter how slow you make the Pelican, it would still be overpowered and 100% useless in Halo's multiplayer gameplay style. There is no need for a troop transport vehicle in a run and gun game. Like somebody said, if they changed it to a type of immensely large scale battlefield, then maybe. But I don't see that happening because Halo is based largely upon close quarter encounters. Sorry but I am 100% sure we won't be seeing the Pelican in multiplayer.

id love to see flyable pelican but really only way i could see it working is in mp is if it was only on one level and it only started on a special game types and only huge 1-2 or two huge maps.

only on campaign i believe it would work and I hope they do implement it in both but it would work best in campaign

Every time you say something is old your dick shrinks.

phantoms hold more rather have phantom but better be a big map

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

If we get to pilot dropships, we should drive both, and the spirit should be thrown in as well.

Its just a big vehicle, vehicles make Halo what it is!

Death to rank junkies.

I've flown both in Halo Custom Edition, and the Phantom is much more fun, but the Pelican is still great.
