Let's start off by saying that this thread is about Halo: Reach (Duh...) and not Halo 3: ODST.

If Bungie implements the silenced SMG and the silenced Pistol into Halo: Reach, they better fix this.

Halo 3: ODST, great game? Yes, by far.
Okay, the silenced weapons of today and the future. In today's modern time, when someone shoots a silenced pistol, you would be able to hear a faint "Pfft" noise, but you wouldn't be able to make out where the shot came from. But in the future (Halo 3: ODST) when you fired a shot of the M6C SOCOM or the M75 Caseless Submachine Gun you're spotted by The Covenant right away. Why is it that when you fire the silenced shot in the present day today you won't be seen, and in Halo 3: ODST you're spotted?

If Bungie implements these two weapons into Halo: Reach (or any new silenced weapons), they need to make it so when you shoot a Grunt and then he dies, The Covenant shouldn't know where the shot came from and then inspect the body wondering how he just died (9:47, he throws a rock and they go inspect the body and they're all confused.) Then the next shot you fire and another Grunt falls to the ground, they are all alarmed that there is a an enemy (You) is nearby and then should scurry for cover before they loose anymore Grunts, Jackals, Elites, etc.

So if Bungie does this, I will be one happy-son-of-a-gun! =D
Thank you for your time. =]

I agree, when me and my dad we're playing ODST for the first time, right after you jump out of the ODST pod in the first level, I was so worked up to be stealthy like a sniper to kill things and not be seen. But when I hid myself and shot some Grunt, they knew exactly where I was. I was so pissed. *Angry Face*

They got to fix it for Reach.

In a way, that's how I felt when that happened to me. >=[

i think you mean 'inspect' instead of 'expect'? i was just a little confused reading this. Other than that, you are absolutely right--they shouldn't be able to spot you when you shoot with a silenced weapon. I like to take snapshots of the bullet going into a jackals head in theater mode, but when i was doing so with the auto mag, i couldn't find the bullet at all, even if i slowed it down. What that means is that if you can't see the bullet and barely hear it, you shouldn't be spotted. But one thing i noticed after spending 18 hours doing the endure achievement is that grunts and jackals are the stupidest soldiers ever... either that or they're just fearless. I pick his buddy, and he comes out to look, and then gets picked. And then jackals think that their shield will protect them from a gravity hammer or grenade...seriously... epic fail. Where are the pesky jackals from halo 2? now they're just a nuisance

Actually, I find that I can get away with popping a few grunts in the face and then slowely backing off. The trick is to shoot the ones that none of the other covenant are looking at.

The final Halo 3 ODST ViDoc explained a main point of the silenced weapons. A real silenced weapon IS very quiet. So quiet that in play testing it wasn't satisfying to shoot so they made it louder.

Yeah, the pistol is so leet in ODST that you can usually wipe out all the grunts/jackals before the brutes gets anywhere near you.

(My point being that it doesn't matter that they seem to bear down on you straight away)

Wtf is wrong with you people? The silenced weapons aren't coming back, they are ODST exclusive weapons and if you read their descriptions they don't make spartan-classed versions of them.

Don't use your VISR, it's also a flashlight.
Be crouching. Brutes have Motion Trackers.
Make absolute sure there's no Jackals in the area, they have the most awesome eyesight out of all the Covenant (that's why they're the snipers).
Don't move at all when you do it, and only do it when you're behind them (the flash can be seen).

You should be able to be stealthy a LOT more often.

Lol @ spartans arent allowed to use silenced weapons.

The M6C/SOCOM is a scaled up (117%) Spartan edition. Look at the size of the magnum in his hands.

IMO silenced weapons should be a little more quiet, and they would make it so you don't pop up on the radar if you shoot. Also when you shoot someone the arrows which point in the direction of fire are disabled.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

When you look at Reach and what happens during the attack/defense of said planet, you realize there is no reason for silenced weapons.

BUT, if there are silenced weapons, I agree.

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

Don't blame the weapons.
Blame the Covenant for having great hearing.

-I was here

actually, they do work if you keep your distance like you are supposed to with stealth. on buck's first mission, i took out all of the grunts and one of the brutes before they fired a single shot at me(they did fire off some as i took em out like they always do) although if they do work on these weapons more, the pistol should be made to be more effective against shields

If "Reach" lives up to what its like in the stories, you aren't gonna be wasting your time with a silenced pistol or smg. So don't worry

Exactly who the hell isn't going to freak if someone next to them drops dead. Besides silencers don't make it impossible to hear the shot. They only deaden the shot and muzzle flare. If you're within a good range of the shooter you can hear him.

But yeah I did the same thing. Pick them off when the others aren't watching that one. To expect that they won't notice if one of them dies is stupid, the trick is they might not know where you are right away. But the more shots that you fire the easier it is to pin point where the shots came from. So shoot less or get headshots every time.

Don't be a dick.

Ok I doubt the weapons are going to be in Reach but thats besides the point. The real problem with this thread is that, yes today's silenced weapons are hard to track with the naked ear. But we aren't exactly testing our weapons on aliens with possible supersonic hearing. So the problem is not the gun, rather it is the covenant's amazing hearing abilities.
