Halo books are very different from the games. This is because the games need balance, and the books don't. However, some people must want the two to fit in, so here is how I propose to do this:
Realism Mode.
In the books, Plasma weapons are far greater than UNSC weapons. For the sake of the argument (not real numbers, but stick with me here), lets imagine a frying pan. This frying pan is made out of a substance that can get as hot as the highest temperature ever. Right now, it is 3000 Degrees Celsius. Now, imagine being smacked in the face 10 times with it. That is equivalent to a book Plasma Pistol Overcharge Shot.
In the books, Spartans are stealthy. Sniping is quiet, flashbangs are effective, necks are snapped.
In the books, enemies are better. No self-sticking, no idiocy. Elites are smarter than most, Brutes are super-strong, Hunters can vaporize things.
So, here is how this mode would work: There would be Traditional and Realism mode. Traditional is like the Trilogy's game, with Easy, Normal, Heroic, and Legendary.
Realism is like the books, with the four difficulties as well.
In Realism mode, stealth is an option. Lets say that there is a group of 5 Grunts, and an Elite. You assassinate the Elite. AS LONG AS THEIR BACKS ARE TURNED, the GRUNTS WILL NOT NOTICE.
The Sniper Rifle will not be a loud ass piece of kill. It will, instead, be silenced. As with the previous situation, if you start sniping, and killing things, UNLESS the enemy notices the body, THEY WILL NOT KNOW WHERE YOU ARE. Even if they do (notice the body), it will take another notice of you sniping something to know where you are.
Next, Plasma weapons will hurt far more. For example, it will only take about 5 shots to knock out shields, and 3 to kill you. But, you say, how will you play the game if 2 Grunts can kill you in 5 seconds? Well, here is how:
Spartan Time: Spartans have this thing, where enemies/time slows down, and they speed up. Lets say that you are in a desperate situation. Shields down, low health. BAM, Spartan Time kicks in, giving you enough time to kill your enemies and get to safety.
Next, enemies will be far superior to other games. For example, a Brute won't chuck a Spike at the wall in front of him, and the berserk at you when he has no shields, and you are sniping at him. Instead, the Brute would wait until you are in range for Spiking, and would not be stupid. Enemies would not stick themselves and make dumb mistakes.
Finally, and most importantly, is Spartans being awesome. I propose "fistfighting", for lack of a better term. Spartans can use their entire body as a weapon. Therefore, in Reach, I propose the ability to holster your weapon (unless it is a Hammer or Sword), and use your fists, head, and feet to harm your enemies. Now, I don't want a straight up fighting game. However, it could be done. Maybe LT and LB for left body attacks, RT and RB for right body attacks, LS for movement, RS for camera control, A jumps, Y to exit, X or B for finishing or a dash move. It would have to be in third person to work.
I would also like to see prompts for certain actions, like Hold RB to climb ledge, to advance your Covenant killing and stealthy purposes.
