Subject: Realistic Reach

Halo books are very different from the games. This is because the games need balance, and the books don't. However, some people must want the two to fit in, so here is how I propose to do this:

Realism Mode.

In the books, Plasma weapons are far greater than UNSC weapons. For the sake of the argument (not real numbers, but stick with me here), lets imagine a frying pan. This frying pan is made out of a substance that can get as hot as the highest temperature ever. Right now, it is 3000 Degrees Celsius. Now, imagine being smacked in the face 10 times with it. That is equivalent to a book Plasma Pistol Overcharge Shot.

In the books, Spartans are stealthy. Sniping is quiet, flashbangs are effective, necks are snapped.

In the books, enemies are better. No self-sticking, no idiocy. Elites are smarter than most, Brutes are super-strong, Hunters can vaporize things.

So, here is how this mode would work: There would be Traditional and Realism mode. Traditional is like the Trilogy's game, with Easy, Normal, Heroic, and Legendary.
Realism is like the books, with the four difficulties as well.

In Realism mode, stealth is an option. Lets say that there is a group of 5 Grunts, and an Elite. You assassinate the Elite. AS LONG AS THEIR BACKS ARE TURNED, the GRUNTS WILL NOT NOTICE.

The Sniper Rifle will not be a loud ass piece of kill. It will, instead, be silenced. As with the previous situation, if you start sniping, and killing things, UNLESS the enemy notices the body, THEY WILL NOT KNOW WHERE YOU ARE. Even if they do (notice the body), it will take another notice of you sniping something to know where you are.

Next, Plasma weapons will hurt far more. For example, it will only take about 5 shots to knock out shields, and 3 to kill you. But, you say, how will you play the game if 2 Grunts can kill you in 5 seconds? Well, here is how:

Spartan Time: Spartans have this thing, where enemies/time slows down, and they speed up. Lets say that you are in a desperate situation. Shields down, low health. BAM, Spartan Time kicks in, giving you enough time to kill your enemies and get to safety.

Next, enemies will be far superior to other games. For example, a Brute won't chuck a Spike at the wall in front of him, and the berserk at you when he has no shields, and you are sniping at him. Instead, the Brute would wait until you are in range for Spiking, and would not be stupid. Enemies would not stick themselves and make dumb mistakes.

Finally, and most importantly, is Spartans being awesome. I propose "fistfighting", for lack of a better term. Spartans can use their entire body as a weapon. Therefore, in Reach, I propose the ability to holster your weapon (unless it is a Hammer or Sword), and use your fists, head, and feet to harm your enemies. Now, I don't want a straight up fighting game. However, it could be done. Maybe LT and LB for left body attacks, RT and RB for right body attacks, LS for movement, RS for camera control, A jumps, Y to exit, X or B for finishing or a dash move. It would have to be in third person to work.

I would also like to see prompts for certain actions, like Hold RB to climb ledge, to advance your Covenant killing and stealthy purposes.

SHORT VERSION: Enemies smarter, Plasma more damaging, Spartan Time, "fistfighting", stealth

I like your idea. This is how the game should have been made in the first place. Just I don't understand the "Spartan Time".

YThe problem is that the game would probably be worth more than the average price for a XBOX 360 game. It would be like buying 2 different games. They would probably have to release both modes as different games. The idea sounds impractical.

I like what you are trying to say particularly with the Covi weapons. however i think they could be Over powered and still be balanced.

if plasma weapons did more damage i would be okay with that because they have slow mussel velocity.

i poseted this about plasma weapons a little back

"if you think about a plasma weapon it should be far more devastating than it is. so when plasma bolts hit Concrete and steal it think it should stick there for a while and let off a lot of sparks and smoke, and be very bright. very similar the light a welder gives off. and i Know Spartans have armor to protect the from plasma, but grunts, jackals, drones and marines do not, so 1 shot from a plasma weapon should incapacitate or kill them"


as far as the CQC. sounds like another game Bungei made its called ONI---- i agree that a spartan should be able to do all that, it just would not fit in to halos game-play

because a sound suppressed weapon has to be Sub sonic to work properly. and at that point it would do no damage what so ever to energy shields due to the lose of the immense kinetic energy the weapon creates

It would kind of be like a Slo Motion/Bullet time thing.
In the books, whenever a Spartan is in an incredibly stressful situation (falling 8 kilometers in a burning Pelican, being sniped at by Fifty Jackal Snipers, etc), Spartan Time kicks in. Basically what happens is, due to the Spartan's enhanced mind/body, time slows down for their enemies, while their reaction time/speed quickens.
So basically you get faster, while your enemies/surroundings slow down.

It would work like this: Lets say that your shields are down, and you can only take, like, 3 more shots. You either manually activate Spartan Time, or it insta activates for you. You can either dodge the remaining shots and regroup, or kill your enemies quickly. They would slow down, and you would speed up. Simple, huh?

it's a video game, who cares about kinetic energy??? and 500 yrs in the future, the probably fixed that by then, and in the books....that kinda explains that for itself

Well, I recall in the Halo E3 2000 premier trailer, the Sniper weapon was silenced. They could have that, but minus the bright chrome finish.

i meant that they probably could fix the the gun in the future so that when it's silenced, it has the same vilcoity and damage on covenant as the standard sniper rifle

actually it was not silenced, that was actually something like about that bit; is that the sound took time to travel. if you listen you will hear a report a little after the Elite dies

It's a great idea, apart from the Spartan Time and part of the "Fist Fighting" mode.
Take away the Spartan Time. I just don't see it as a good idea. But the fist fighting is a great idea, just limit it to the fists, not the entire body. I don't like the idea of holstering your weapon and going third person to roll, dive, jump, and do those things. I prefer a first person fist smacking.

Also, I love the idea of stealth. Climbing walls and jumping fences is a great idea.

Bungie, if you're reading this, please remove the ceilings, they're a pain.

Well, it was enough to not be quickly noticed, which is exactly what I would like. Not a silenced gun, but with less of a report/longer ranges to use it on. Plus the bullets seemed more deadly.

I agree with this. I wanted to get this implemented into Halo 3, but, by that time, the game was practically finished.

Hopefully, we'll see real results this time 'round.
