Subject: Bring back the Rocket hog?

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Nerfing Gauss sounds better than exchanging it with the campy rocket hog.
I'm curious why do you think the Rocket hog is campy?

I wonder this too, in all my time playing CE PC, the Rocket Hog couldn't Camp, it always got found and beat by the Rocket or Fuel Rod.

Instead of the Gauss, no. An addition to the current arsenal, yes, I think it would be a great addition, but does it fit into the gameplay that will be featured on Halo: Reach? I can't really say, but more is always a plus.

I don't mean camping. I mean it looks and feels laughable. The yellow neon stripe on a black Hog makes it look like a user modded, tuned gansta car and the Rocket Launcher is clearly just glued on the turret. Then you shoot the infinite big rockets that can be stored absolutely nowhere.

Gearbox clearly wanted to add a rocket hog, but had a subpar execution. The other additions were cool though.

Yeah, that is true, but Bungie could EASILY just make it Green. I would like the ability in Forge to spawn weapons with "detail" Colors like Red and Blue stripes on the Hog or something though.

I've never really played Halo CE on the PC (please don't kick me out of the forum), but from a concept idea, a warthog that shoots slow moving rockets makes a whole lot more sense from a balance standpoint than a gauss hog that fires a lighting fast hyper accurate shot that kills in one hit.

It doesn't need to be an exact copy of the warthog from Halo PC. It could easily be redone with the typical olive paintjob that we have come to know and love.

That's just is. You can change the Rocket Hog, or you can change the Gauss Hog. I rather have Gauss as the starting point.

Color is not the main issue. The Rocket Launcher turret is another just as big of a problem.

If all weapons had limited ammo and Gauss hogs had about 16 ammo it wouldn't be nearly as bad. It could also have a short warm-up time like Spartan Laser.

What if people actually had to exit vehicles without dying (when they run out of ammo)? Now people don't leave until they die.

I'm merely saying, can you imagine a slow moving gauss hog shot? It makes an awful banging noise and this huge bullet of light and energy flies out... super slowly? That is, assuming that making the shots travel slowly is the best way to nerf the gauss hog. Its simply much more believeable to have a slow moving rocket than a slow moving energy shot.

Just saying.

But hell, so long as its not overpowered, I'm for it.

OH! You know when I first read your post I almost thought that's what you meant! I see what you are saying now. Also I like the idea of a Guass with limited ammo. But then what? It just becomes a big target? A transport?

Decoy. Put it in the center of a field and hide a bunch of Carriable fusion coils behind it and wait for someone on the other team to check to see if it still has ammo D:<

No... not as a replacement for the Gauss at least.

If it was just there as a Forge item, then sure, but i'm not really too fussed about it to be honest.

The rocket hog was my favorite vehicle in the first game on PC. For those who say it is too campy, I will reply with this:

The rocket hog was great base defense during CTF play, BUT! It was pretty easy to take out the rocket hog especially if you were in the chain gunner hog cuz the rocket hog was parked so you could gun him down in a second with out being touched, therefore it is not OP.

People think its OP because its a rocket launcher on wheels and its easy to kill? Try shooting a hog across the map and predicting where to aim ahead, not as easy as you think, and if you run around the hog trying to dodge and get killed and says OP, your a dumb... You cant dodge a up close even if its on an infantry or on the hog.

Bring the Rocket Hog back! It was very useful!

What if all vehicles and turrets had limited ammo?
- Scorpion had about 12 rockets and 500 machine gun ammo
- Ghost had about 500 plasma bolts
- Banshee had about 20 Fuel Rods and 300 plasma bolts
... They would still be very powerful for some time...

It would be interesting to see people going: "-blam!- we're running out of bullets, we must disembark the vehicle!"
Right now people don't leave vehicles unless they die or there's an objective somewhere a vehicle can't reach.

Another thing is that vehicles should have real health like in Halo1. I really hate how in Halo2,3,ODST my shield = vehicles health. It makes no sense. A Warthog should be able to take only that much damage.

Wow ok I can definitely see how that would more depth to the gameplay. It would force people to be that much more careful with their vehicles.

I always thought, for customs at the very least, vehicle health should be customizable. Instead of an on/off for indestructible.

But then the vehicles become worthless and nobody uses them.

This may be how it is already in Halo 3, but what if vehicles become easier to destroy as they are damage? Like, say I'm in a warthog, someone fires a rocket launcher and I get hit by the splash damage and I'm sent flying. I survive with only a tiny bit of shields left, but the next time I come around and get hit by that splash damage I die because the warthog's armor is no longer there to protect me from some of the damage.

It might explain why you need to stick ghosts twice to kill the driver unless you hit the ghost right near the cockpit. It would make sense, right?

how about Family sized wart hog i want one in multiplayer, not in matchmaking but for private matches. it would be cool to fill up the warthog and try to kill another fam warthog using only small arms like smgs and pistols

I could see that working out, and replacing a Gauss in Multiplayer.

Maybe reduce the rate of fire of the Rockets and the Ammo Capacity before a "Reload" Animation is set in. You would still have infinite ammo, its just to make it seem more balanced.

  • 10.13.2009 11:34 AM PDT

Its a pice of crap. You had to shoot ahead of your target and hope he would be there when the rocket hit it was so slow. Guass is much better.

Worthless? That's like saying the health system of Halo3 is better than the one in ODST or in Halo1, which I don't agree with at all. A vehicle can take more basic bullets than a body can. Vehicles should really be vehicles instead of just another weapon.

Ghosts and Banshees of Halo1 campaign are still the best vehicles because of their health. Everything affects everything.

I rather take the thing that is realistic and creates good gameplay than just the gameplay. Pretty much all the problems I see in Halo are because of Bungie choosing gameplay over everything. Dual wields do less damage than single weapons, they change voice actors, vehicles have insensible health and infinite ammo, they seem to focus more and more on easter eggs...
