If this engine is going to be as revolutionary as Halo: ce's or Halo 2's you'd think it would have to be 60 frames per second. I really hope it is, animations sure would look A LOT better.

Peace through superior firepower.

Some people like to brag about fps, but you do realize you won't see a difference, right?

you can definetly tell a difference, everything is a lot smoother.

Maybe you should do some research. That's only in crisp, clear things without motion blur. Halo has motion blur. Your brain doesn't process stuff with frames, so it does only matter to a certain degree. But hell, if they can do it, then yes.

You are definitely right. I should have done research first.

Fixed.

ha. our eyes only see at approx. 25 fps. i cant personally notice a difference over 40. which is kind of unfortunate because i just spent 350$ on a 5870 video card and i cant notice a difference.

A higher framerate means more defined and fluid animation; you might not catch it at first, but the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS is actually pretty jarring. Higher FPS means more frames for animations and explosions. Have you ever watched one of Halo 3's effects in slow motion, and noticed how smooth/cool looking it is?

If you don't understand, a higher framerate technically means slower motion - videos shot at 10,000 frames per second are slowed down so that all of those extra frames are visible. That's a little off topic.

So, the challenge with 60FPS is that everything needs double the keyframes to look good at such a speed. Halo 3 looked great in 30 FPS because Bungie has some really talented animators and artists.

However, if Reach ran in 60 FPS with interpolation between keyframes to ensure smooth movement IN slow motion...

Oh man, that would be like sex. Seriously. Imagine a spartan backflipping smoothly in slow motion, with a huge explosion behind him and a slowly vaporizing sniper trail in front of him...OOOH
