I think it would be nice if you could press RB at the right time when a Hunter is close to you, and watch your character climb/jump on its back. Then, you rapidly press B to rip the worms out of the hunter's neck. This should feel about the same pace as hijacking a vehicle. I remember one spartan (Either Sam or Fred I forgot) did something similar to this around the time that the battle of reach took place, it would be great to see it ingame. Who likes this idea?

Edit: It would be even better if you had to wait for the hunter to smash his shield into the ground, then climb on him using his shield as a ladder. That would make it more challenging.

Your friend is not a reliable source of information

hijack hunter? You do know what the term hijack means right? I think you mean hold RB to board hunter like with the prophet in halo 2? I thought it was a stupid idea in halo 2 and it would be a stupid idea for reach. I would much rather just shoot hunters and I would have rather shot the prophet to death.

The Spartan who did that was Will. He's grab one of the arms of the hunter and rip it off (which cost him his life in the Ghosts of Onyx)

But I don't think this would be a good idea overall. We are meant to strafe around hunters, which is what makes the encounter w/hunters fun. Jumping on it and just tearing the worms out is cool at first but just gets old.

Wow. It seems like everyone on the forums are ignorant to anything new for Reach, and just wants the same old halo all over again without any changes.

I am sure when people found out about hijackin being added to Halo 2, they said "you are meant to strafe around vehicles, not hijack them. Jumping on it and kicking the driver out is cool at first but just gets old".

You arnt "meant" to strafe around anything, or do anything in halo. You can chose to do so, which means you can chose to rip out his worms, or to strafe around him. Stop being scared of everything new.

This wouldn't be an entirely bad idea, although it would take away some of the challenge of fighting them. I think the Hunters should be able to board your vehicles. Imagine driving a Warthog only to suddenly have a Hunter jump on it and smash the windscreen, proceeding to swing it's huge shield around.

A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

I support as long as you would only be able to do this from behind, and the Hunter would have a chance of smashing you against a well or some way to get you off.

Wherever you roam
so far from home
you'll be safe from peril
life threatening and terrible
if you avoid David Powel
and keep track of your towel.

Only if the Hunter can lacerate and crush your foolish ass into a bloody pulp of flesh and scrap metal if you're not exactly perfect in execution.

I think this would ruin fighting hunters because when a hunter comes your just gonna own it with no epic melee fight. Also if you could then that would just leave elites as the only thing that might cause some trouble.

you should only have a fraction of a second to do the manuever otherwise killing hunters would be too easy. As the guy above me said, it would be cool if they would smash you against walls trying to shake you off.

Makes sense. Grab onto the razor sharp spines and impale yourself on his back as he shakes you around and cuts you to pieces.

As long as it is NOT the ONLY way to kill a hunter, I'm all for it. But I would still like to mix it up with other tactics.

I like this idea, but I want it to be hard to do. Otherwise killing Hunters would be easy, you just need to dodge I charge and then board it.

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

It worked with the prophet of regret, I don't see why not. Just make it difficult to do, and make it so we can get knocked off.

Yeah, it should be hard to do. Did being able to hijack vehicles take away the challenge of fighting them? Maybe slightly if you ask some, but it certainly did not ruin it, or come close to doing so.

Vehicles are hard to hijack because they move too quickly to be hijacked. Hunters are slow tank like creatures. Theres a difference.

"Hunters are slow tank like creatures". Exactly. Which means they will send you flying into a wall if you press the button a split second to early.

Edit: It would be even better if you had to wait for the hunter to smash his shield into the ground, then climb on him using his shield as a ladder. That would make it more challenging.

Sort of like what Buck did in ODST to the brute? I can see that happening--it would be more realistic. You want to feel like you are in the fight, not in a video game. This being said, a kick attack would be worthy of being added. I agree though--people are afraid of change. You either like it or you don't, but if you want the old versions then play the old games. When i feel like riding a spectre or turning invisible i play halo 2. When i feel like duel wielding needlers i play halo 2. When i feel like doing 12 missions i play halo 2. When i feel like smashing brutes with a gravity hammer, i play halo 3. See the point? This is why we have 5 halo games--not 2. If you don't like the changes in reach, you could either play another halo or trade it in.

Back to the point--i like this idea, but if they add it in you'll have to shoot their back armor off first to do so. The hunters in halo 2 were much harder and scarier than the next 2 games, so i hope if they're in reach they are much harder, scarier, and stronger.

i think you should be able to jump on him easily, but its like one of those gears of war 2 chainsaw battles where you have to repeatedly tap some button really really fast, but in gears of war 2, its easy so this is a lot harder...a LOT harder...

Code of Conduct

This sounds better for a cutscene than a function.

  • 10.13.2009 8:46 PM PDT

I wish I was still legendary.

This would be interesting, but I think it should be harder than just dodging a melee. Perhaps if you had to dodge the melee, but then the hunter would start moving rapidly, shaking around, slamming into things? Given hunters are heavily armoured, other covenant in the area should keep shooting at you as well, to add to the challenge.

No, that would make it stupid. Hunters aren't some lame reoccuring mini boss where you dodge their attacks until they do something stupid and then you beat the crap out of them, then wash, rinse, repeat. The mechanic of getting behind them to kill them is fine as it is.

Halo isn't Arkham Asylum.
