A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

Class based games are about spawning, then owning everyone on the other team. They just skip the idea of allowing the player to actually decide what weapons they want to use, and when.
What was that? I was busy cleaning the B.S. out of my ears.

Have you ever PLAYED a GOOD class based game, like not COD4 and more along the lines of TF2?

  • 10.13.2009 9:14 PM PDT

Cheepumaguariger Bobcat, ROWR!!!!

Ok, just think about it in this context.

Imagine Halo 3 style gameplay, but instead of having defaults weapons, you pick from.... let's say your typical grunt(Spartan Mark VI), heavy weapons (Spartan EOD), spy(Spartan Scout or Recon Spartan), etc., etc.

This wouldn't be COD. Those aren't classes people. It would be Team Fortress 2 or Star Wars:Battlefront, but with Spartans and Elites (and maybe other Covenant...). No ranking up or going through campaign to get classes. It's all default and is still based entirely on how good you are at the game.

...all hypothetical of course...

Wow, I worded that horribly, didn't I? Class based games skip the idea of allowing the player to DYNAMICALLY choose which weapons they want to use and when, without respawning.

Want the sniper rifle that SOB has been laying into you with? Well... kill 'em, take it, and unleash bloody vengence! In a class based shooter, you could just spawn with sniper, then take him out. Where the -blam!- is the fun in that?

oh yes, and I had played many good clas based shooters ( SWbattlefront, Battlefield, ect. ). I always get bored with them, and migrate back to Halo. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. They just don't keep my interest for very long.

That's more like it, although I still disagree.

When you spawn with that sniper in a class based game, that sniper isn't a power weapon. It's a normal weapon that is good at long range, but crappy at short range, and if you get the long range kill as he teabags your body then you deserve it.

If I play a game, I don't want to be forced to start with an AR or BR all the time, and I don't want to lose a fight just because someone else picked up the rocket launcher.

I want to lose a fight because I wasn't as good at that class as the other person, or the class that killed me had a better advantage over me in that situation. (Example: I spawned as a sniper, someone else spawns as an assault class, sneaks up on me and rapes me with a shotgun.)

I don't want to be limited because that r-tard on my team picked up the energy sword before me.

What KIND of class system?
Just A class system in general that doesn't resemble CRAP OF DEWDIE FOWAR!!!

Think Team Fortress 2, only with Pyros that don't suck.

It is my opinion that Halo:reach multiplayer should not be class based. I prefer gameplay that revolves around weapon/map control. Does that make me ignorant...no.

Burn in the flame of my passige

i like halo as it is if there was classes in it it would be as if you were playing COD(I do like COD but not as much as halo) but your a spartain or elite + then what would be the point of infection if everyone would have Power wepons/good weapons + one main reason i like halo more then COD is because everyone starts with the same weapon(not including infection)

Positive vibes.

I suppose classes wouldn't be a bad idea, but the fact that Call of Duty has already done this sort of defeats the purpose. Bungie should stick to there more unique ideas.

Damn it, last part didn't get added for some reason...

Last part was have you ever played a good non COD4 class baded game, along the lines of TF2.

I'm relatively calm today, so I won't chew you out.

COD4 is not a class based system, Team Fortress 2 is a class based system.

COD4 is a crap based system. (get it?!?!?!!)

I like what your saying but to me that should be a game type insted on the hole thing because halo is a lot different then star wars battlefront(although its a good game) if it was a game type i wouldn't mind but i like halo the way it is

No. A class system doesn't belong in Halo. Period.

I hope Bungie keeps the same Halo formula that everyone loves.

Yessir I own the Orange Box, and have played TF2 a bit though not as much as I have played Halo.I used to play a lot Class based games(Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Battlefield2 MC, Battlefield 1943, Star wars Battlefront). And I would say Team Fortress is a fun fresh game, but I prefer the gameplay of the previous Halo FPS games. It would be interesting to see maybe a class based mode or a standalone XBLA class based Halo game.(BTW a group recently branched off of Bungie to make Downloadable games). But the meat of the multiplayer experience should be similar to the current play style.

Fair enough. But killing a player who has a better weapon than you, taking it, then procceeding to make him your -blam!-, is a grander expirience imo than just spawning with the right tools to do so.

If I play a game, I don't want to be forced to start with an AR or BR all the time, and I don't want to lose a fight just because someone else picked up the rocket launcher.

Everyone starts with the same chance to aquire better weapons. If the other team obtains said weapons, it is your/your teams fault for not stopping them before they did.

I want to lose a fight because I wasn't as good at that class as the other person, or the class that killed me had a better advantage over me in that situation. (Example: I spawned as a sniper, someone else spawns as an assault class, sneaks up on me and rapes me with a shotgun.)

I don't se any notable difference between the situation you describe, and a player who obtains the counter weapon on the map.

I don't want to be limited because that r-tard on my team
picked up the energy sword before me.

If you think of things on an individual basis, your being limeted. But halo revolves around teamwork, and your every action has consoquences. So, even though YOU could not obtain that sword, it doesn't mean your effetivness as a team entity is limeted. But let it fall ito the hands of the other team... Perhaps i've been playing too much MLG...

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I would like to invite you to the most active group there is, Black Water Ops.. Boasting over 3,000 members this is one of the fastest growing groups and proven to be one of the most active b.net groups. An amazing experience awaits you with weekly game nights, photo contests, and forging contests. This is one decision you won't regret.

No. I like Halo the way it is. A class system would change the game a lot. And all the weapons would have to be edited and balanced.
