Subject: Improved Damage and Blood Effects

Before I begin I just want to say that I don't think Halo should see a significant increase in unnecessary gore and such, but there are a few things I'd like to see in Reach.

I know other people have mentioned damage. I think that is pretty important. I love all the Halo's thus far but sometimes I just think it's a bit too clean. No damage on characters, minimal blood, etc. Seeing a few different stages of damage (predominately in campaign with marines and covenant) would be a great detail. It would help you to determine which of your marines is about to drop dead, which could influence any tactical decisions in regards to vehicles and weapons. But personally I think it would just add good depth to the visual aspect of the gameplay.

War is violent. I'm not asking for gratuitous or even very realistic effects, but something that will convey a bit more realism (Halo isn't about realism, I know). Gore isn't really something I'm clamoring for, because it just might end up being a bit too messy and looking too much like WaW. But to address those who say gore has no place in Halo, take a look at anything involving the flood. Always some major gore involved there.Honestly without any flood levels I see no reason why Halo 3 would not have been T.

So there you have it. I'm sorry if I'm being repetitive, but I'm not sure if this topic has been consolidated into one thread yet. Please post your opinions and ideas.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

In short, make the game more graphic.

By all means, yes! If Halo 3 had no blood, it could have been rated T.

Golden Rule of Gaming

If someone is better than you, he's a nerd and has no life.
If someone is worse than you, he's a noob

I agree, but not so much a gore level. but a detail level

what i mean is i would like to see plasma Burn into marines grunts and jackals, or blood splatters matched with the trajectory of the rounds

EX: if you shoot an Elite in the head there should be a blood splatter on the the wall behind him

Marine Corps.
Semper Fi.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Yes, more blood. And when the blood is added, it needs to look realistic. I know Bungie spends more time on their gameplay than on their cutscenes, but the blood in Romeo's chest wound did NOT look like blood.

More and better blood, please.

Stop PMing me if you are group recruiting.

I would like to see bullet holes and blast... um... smudges? More often. Also, environmental destroy-ability. Imagine entering a MM game with a brand new, shiny armor and coming out with a bullet-ridden, dirtied, blood caked armor.

I like this,

i posted this a while ago

-semi destroyable structures-
almost everything in the Halo universe is made of better materials than we have to day. how ever i would like to be able to driver trough walls with a warthog, and blow holes out with the rocket launcher. but the structure remains sturdy

-Bullet Holes-
I would like to see bullets be able to penetrate weak materials. like thin metal and thin concrete. and massive plumes of sparks, or debris. i find it annoying when a peace of 1/4 inch tin save someone from a future berret fifty

-Plasma burns-
if you think about a plasma weapon it should be far more devastating than it is. so when plasma bolts hit Concrete and steal it think it should stick there for a while and let off a lot of sparks and smoke, and be very bright. very similar the light a welder gives off.

lolz you want us to go blined

Dedicated driver.

Personally I'm hoping for some dismemberment in Halo: Reach.
Only in rare cases though, like super-strong explosions or getting hit by a ghost at maximum speed. If you dismember someone, it should feel like a reward. Not only would it be pretty awesome, it would keep some parents from buying the game for their kids, keeping the XBL experience a little bit better.

There's no way Bungie will do this though, Halo has never been about gore and blood and they probably want the parents buy their game for their pre-teens.

Check my masterpiece here.

Hell yeah. The battle rifl, aka the best weapon known to man, is beast and kills all. They should make it the only weapon. Why would any idiot use anything else?

YES! it would be much cooler to snipe somebody in the head and their helmet cracks and blood would stain the floor. and when you beet somebody down i would like to see some blood splatter on your screen not too much blood where you can;t even see but just a little bit.

And also when somebody gets a perfection or just goes a while without dying, their armor should be all jacked up with bullet holes and dirt.

that would be kick ass!

You get to watch a planet die from a front row seat. What more do you want?

  • 10.14.2009 11:04 AM PDT

I can't believe I got warm by a fire fed with my manuscript. What a nightmare.

damaged MJOLNIR armor in multiplayer. that's what I want to see.

I agree. Adding more blood and damage effects on the Marines/enemies would be a great improvement, not only graphics wise.

we want to look at their armor and be able to say " i think that that guy was on an dieing planet, and I think that guy was hiding in a bubble shield for the past 3 weeks."

  • 10.14.2009 12:16 PM PDT

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

While it certainly shouldn't be Gears of War messy, it could stand from a little more detail in that department. I don't think there is a need for gore of any kind, but scorched or cracked armor, blood from wounds, and not just random blood spray would add to the overall feel.

Halo isn't Arkham Asylum!

...Sorry, just wanted to say that. What with all the "Halo isn't COD!" rebuttles going on.

Hell, if its campaign, and as the story goes on the mjolnir armor gets more and more beat up, I'm fine with it. But I don't want armor damage to be in multiplayer because its something most people won't live long enough to appreciate.

As long as my bullets register 99% of the time. I don't care what else they add to the game. I personally wouldn't mind going back to HCE graphics with increased resolution. Graphics don't make a game fun for years.

True enough.

...unless of course you're a fan of the theater mode and you like taking screenshots.
