I think Brutes shouldn't have shields or armor. Bash me if you want, but I very much prefer Halo 2 Brutes to Halo 3 Brutes. It was mostly in the way they looked. I feel the Halo 2 Brute sticks way more to the canon and just feels right. I looks like what a Brute should be. In my opinion, they should beef them up, give them smarter AI, and make it harder to head shot them. In exchange, the take away the stupid looking armor and vexing shields. I'd rather have them take and dish out significantly more damage than to continue wearing that overly flamboyant cartoonish armor.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Or they could adjust the models to be of similar size and keep the hit boxes identical.

There should be no difference between them in multiplayer.
The whole point of Halo is that player skill makes the difference not class abilities.

The whole point of Halo is that player skill makes the difference not class abilities.


Which kills the point of having multiple races. If Bungie and people want balanced multiplayer, don't include anything but Spartans.

As for new ideas: I'd like if every race had unique starting weapons. An Elite with AR is one of the most redicilous things I've seen, I hate it. When I play as an Elite (Halo2/Halo3) I avoid human weapons. If Halo3 multiplayer allowed me to spawn with PR perhaps I'd be an Elite, even though most of the time it would be a disadvantage

HUDs should also be a bit different, besides the color. Spartans want some tactical information while Brutes probably don't give a damn about it, they rather have something like "enemy health regonizer". Although I'd like if Spartans had detailed HUD (VISR+Halo1 style), Elites had basic (Halo3/1 style)and Brutes had none. It would make sense because Spartans are clearly technical cyborgs while Elites are the more sophisticated Covenant and Brutes are primitive barbarians.

Tag 'm and Bag 'm

Looks sweet, but the shielding isn't quite right. If you read the pages about shielding on halopedia,
Brute power armor
Elite energy shield
Mjolnir shield

you will notice that:

Brute shields are the weakest, but recharge the quickest.
Elite shields are way stronger then Brute shields,*.
S-II shields are slightly stronger then Elite shields,*.

*Elite shields and S-II shields recharge at the same rate, but for gameplay, they can be changed of course.

shield strenght, recharge(as I see it):
Brute 80-90%, 110%(115%)
Elite 100%, 100%(105%)
S-II 110%, 100%(100%)
the numbers between brackets, the shield recharge rate I should implie, for gameplay reasons.

Also Brutes are the quickest and jump the highest, because of the gravity being 2G at their home planet, Brutes

Look at Halo2, 3 and ODST. Normally Brutes are very slow and don't jump at all. When you compare a Brute and Elite climbing, I'd say Elite have much more smooth and aerial jumps.

Games are the main source, others are secondary. We instantly see if something doesn't look right compared to other games

That would be too easy.


It is unfair like that but maybe make it could work if you only let them see moving players so if you stood still or crouched they wouldn't see you, Also they shouldn't make it an instantaneous readout put a delay between updates on the visor so you wouldn't have too much an advantage Otherwise you'd have a rigged game setup. Lastly the Spartans flash light should be able to let you find hiding or camouflaged enemies at the cost of giving away your position. that could make them equal compared to the other races.

Not nice.

Halo is about equal gameplay, not gimmicky playstyles. Just have all 3 races equal in terms of HUD, Shields, Health etc.

If we're going by CE, then the Elites camo ability should drop their shields to around 25% strength. Not 1-shotable, but there'll be a drawback.

Brute's shouldn't have a berserker mode. It would take WAY too much balance out of the game.

And if ANYONE has a strong punch, it's the spartans.

Will there be a way to 'un'beserk? Or will it trigger on no shields/health/something else? Or can we decide when to activate it, but with no going back maybe?

Yeah, I sincerely feel these special abilities could and should replace equipment. I think though giving Spartans only a flashlight is very minor, no matter what the flashlight can show.

I still think they should have a 3rd person acrobatic ability. One way to balance would be to take away jumping ability, and instead they'd do flips and somersaults, as well as climbing/grabbing onto ledges.

Also, if you're going to alter HUDs for different classes, I think Spartans could have a more distinct red arrow in the position they're being shot from, while ODSTs screen just flashes red.

As mentioned by another poster, Elites should have a camo indicator of some sort and have health down 25%. Brutes should have a more minimal HUD, probably only health/power armor and ammo. I don't know about hit-flash for them. HUD should drop when in Berserk. In Berserk their damage resistance should drop dramatically, but it's timed, so afterward return to normal.

Agreed, but then people will start accusing Bungie of wanting to be like Infinity Wards. And in reality, they are not. I kind of like the idea of the three races to have their own traits to make them unique.

For those who make claim that putting Brutes in Reach makes no sense. I want to clear up that Brutes were [at least] present during the destruction of Harvest; which was a nice time ago before Reach's invasion.
