life threatening and terrible
if you avoid David Powel

Definitely not straight up hip-hop. Some percussive inspiration maybe though rap in general features slow, bass heavy percussion beats which conflicts with Halo's fundamental style of rapid percussion or orchestral strings supplemented by wordless chanting or electric guitar.
But one thing Halo definitely doesn't need is lyrics.
Yeah... was a stretch. But the beats would be sweet.
A game that hip-hop style percussion would go with is Gears of War. At least I think it might, Gears of War builds action themes with rapid symphony-style music so slower percussion would mix well with it's established base of themes.
But I dont like GOW
GoW is God of War. It came first so it's only fair. For Gears of War the general consensus on an abbreviation is "Gears".
Anyway, I certainly prefer Halo but I think that the Gears' franchise is a great foil to the Halo franchise. It's a very different shooter than Halo and as they say; "variety is the spice of life."
