Subject: Halo 2 maps corrupted w/ update?

You don't stand a chance against m-AAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Hi, I wanted to play Halo 2 again, and I found out that, right after I signed in, it asked me to do an update. I thought that was odd, as I don't remember ever applying a Halo 2 update on my 360, but I DL'd it anyway.

After the update, I go to sign in and guess what? I get a message saying that all maps are corrupted and I need to DL them again.

My friend has this EXACT SAME error on his 360.
However, his Xbox 360 is the original one, sent in 3 DAMN TIMES to be repaired.
Mine is an Elite, just got it back from Microsoft (1st time sent it in).

Does this happen to all Xboxes that were broken now fixed? B/c I got a refurbished one from M$, saying that it would help me get back to playing quicker.

Well, I have Halo 3, as well as ODST, but my friend, who's got the same problem, only has H2. He built his own gaming PC (something I'll get around to, eventually) so he doesn't play Xbox a lot, that's why he only has a few games (his bro' plays COD4/WaW on it, tho').

Any help or ideas as to what to try? Besides the obvious "re-download them", because I've done that once before, and obviously it didn't work.

Same old HDD I used with my original 360, wiped them from existence and then began the slow, painful process of DLing them again.

Tried it once more, but I am so damn TIRED that I'll probably fall asleep walking to school tomorrow. ;)

You may have to delete all map packs (again) that did go in and clear the cache right after that. Then turn off the box and unplug all wires then plug it all back in and try again.

Halo 2 for Life!

You just need to download all the maps again, the update corrupted them all i guess. Redownloading the maps worked for me.

How do you clear your cache again? Start up and hold A + D-pad Up?

No, open the 360 tray and go to 'My Xbox' on the dash. Scroll to 'System Settings' and click on that. Then click on 'Memory' and when it shows 'Storage Devices' the HDD will be there. Press Y and 'Clear System Cache' will show up.

You should delete any maps installed and clear the cache at the same time then turn off the box and unplug the wires. Then restart. The cache is like cookies (memory) on your HDD and if you don't do that you take a chance that the same message of corrupt files will appear, even if they are not. It's basically a system reboot.

Some people have had success just downloading over and over a bunch of times until it finally worked but idk.

Okay, thanks, I'll try that.

The problem is finding the time to DL all of the Halo 2 maps again....

Will clearing the system cache (I already knew what that was, BTW) clear my DL History for my account? I'm not sure I've downloaded everything I had before I sent in my system, and I don't really want to find it in the Marketplace again.

I only explained the cache thing because you asked. It used to be Y XX, LT, RT, XX to get to the cache so I thought I would explain that it changed to just Y.

Anyway, I don't know about account history as pertaining to your cache but I've never encountered a problem with account history after clearing.

Yes, well, thank you, I cleared the cache, now all I have to do is download the Halo 2 maps and I'll be all set.

HOWEVER! I got a message when trying to connect to Xbox LIVE today, that goes along these lines:
"Xbox LIVE was not found. Your DNS server cannot recieve the routing tables required to access Xbox LIVE. This is usually a problem outside your home network. Contact your ISP."

Except I think it's my router, the 2-Wire is upstairs, and the XBox is in the basement, that's just two levels but, to the Xbox, there is only 2-3 bars at all times, and my laptop, which is just across the hall from the router/modem 2-in-1, only gets max of 3 bars.

I'll call Bell, but any idea how I could solve this without talking to them?

Thanks,

You may have to wait until later when there's less activity. If you have dial up there's nothing Bell can do.

No, I don't have dialup, I have DSL.

I just tried again today (I am sick so I didn't go to school today) and still the same problem. I think it's a problem with the router, since my laptop should have 4 bars, being so close to it, and my neighbour can connect to his friend two doors down with 3 bars - and he has a traditional modem/router setup.

To find out, just plug the line directly into your modem or whatever your connection is. Bypass the router and turn off any fire wall, etc you have just to see.

If you have a modem, sometimes a modem will have it's own firewall to get around. Just guessing here.

Well, that means I'd have to use my sister's portable DVD player as a screen....

Anyways, it worked before, and like I said, the thing I have is a router/modem COMBO, meaning, I don't think I can bypass it.

The 2-Wire is a 2-in-1, with a built-in access point and a 4-port Ethernet hub.

My Xbox can connect to the AP, but not the Internet.

*sigh...* I guess I'll contact Bell...
