how about having a jackal shield as a dual wieldable? it could be burned out by a charged plasma pistol or something

So that way a small section of my torso is protected by a tiny shield for a few seconds.

Unless I wear it as a hat, then I can stop BR fire.

Gigitty Gigitty Goo!

I'd love that, you have to dual wield it and to much damage or a plasma pistol EMP with cut it out. But we should also be able to single wield. just incase there is no dual wieldable weapons near by.

The problem with being given a shield is that it's very difficult to provide a good set of controls that allows you to move the shield while moving and fighting. Halo is always flowing and the game does what it can to never force you to slow down more than you will. Simple controls are a necessity, and Jackal Shields just don't fit easily into the "simple controls and worthwhile benefits" balancing act.

The simplest way to make it effective would be that it's a dual-wield "weapon," and that arm automatically reaches to block incoming fire as fast as it can while you're holding the right trigger. Problem is that it's not particularly useful, since you can't angle it. The shields aren't even big enough for full body coverage in a standing position.

It's a nice thought and a cool idea, as it always has been, but it has yet to given life.

I think that Jackal shield could be one of Halo: Reach's new equipment items. This shield will force us to use one handed weapons, best one to use would be a Mauler, but we don't even know if a Mauler will be in Reach. I know a Spiker gun is in Harvest though.

they could make it so it pulls out to 3rd person like when you use a turret.... and then just have it be in front of you and it takes a certain amount of damage... just an idea

Good idea. But it's still too small.

I mean, the only thing that would possibly work is to rip off the shield off a hunter and use that, and even then, it would be blatantly copying GOW. Would solve the size problem for sure, but getting a good grip on the severed worm arm thing would be difficult.

A hunter shield would also make a good hat. Or maybe a grunt skull helmet. That could be fun.
