If you are a Halo nerd like me you have probably read the books. If you havent i encourage you to. They give you a lot of insight to events before Halo 1; including how Master Cheif became the bad ass that he is. The book Reach, was about Spartan 1's fighting together on the planet Reach. I won't spiol the book just incase it's like the game. I hope that is will be. I want to hear your feed back, Will the video game reach be like the book? Also which Spartan will you play as and who will the enemies be? Will there be brutes in the game? Will it live up to the Halo expectation?

The game will not follow the plot line of the book. The game will happen at the same time as the book however and fit in with the canon.

You will be playing an as of yet unamed spartan in a squad of five as of yet unamed spartans. By focusing on a newcomer, Bungie can create an original story without having to embelish the book or slaughter the canon. Its the only way that makes sense.

Agreed but what about other things in the book, lie the enemy... Will we be fighting the elites?

  • 10.14.2009 9:10 PM PDT

Definitely Elites. Do realize, the reason we didn't fight elites in ODST is because Bungie didn't want to rush them, they wanted to wait until they had a decent chunk of time to improve their AI from Halo 2 into something epic and frightening.

I personally hope that we see some brutes as well, Elites back them up from medium range as they do their close quarter combat thing.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I would like to point out that in the end of TFoR there are 25 Spartans at Reach, and in the beginning of First Strike there are 30. An extra five...like the five in the banner?

When asked about the inconsistencies in Spartan numbers, Nylund said that they have good explanations for most of the stuff we deem mistakes, and Bungie would love to explain them in some form someday, but if they don't get around to it just consider it a result of "fog of war," (either literally in the Haloverse, or the authors of Halo media making mistakes)

hi

Hey I also read the fall of reach and I just realized when looking at the picture for reach (the 5 spartans in front of a planet) they look like each character from the book! There's Sam at the far left(the biggest),then the smallest one but could run the fastest, John in the middle, Fred right after john, and then the girl that was the sniper.(Sorry I dont know the specific names I havn't read the book in a while).

So I don't know but maybe you play the game from each spartans perspectives at different levels before the fall of reach? I don't think there will be brutes and I think that it will definitely live up to expectations.

I don't think so, most of the games that were based on books weren't huge success. I just hope that Halo: Reach's Storyline will be based on untold side story of the Battle of Reach.

I don't understand people who wouldn't want that.
9-12 hour campaign fighting while defending Reach that is heavily under attack with a squad of Spartans from Red Team and then escaping Reach would be the most interesting part of the battle of Reach to experience.

When he said "the book" he meant The Fall of Reach, not First Strike. All the ground stuff is in First Strike. The Fall of Reach only contains the first ~30 minutes of the orbital battle.

We could get the same battle of reach as a squad of red team spartans, and then escaping in the knick of time feeling and not follow the novel. We only see one POV in the novels (Fred's). Who is to say that a squad of splinter team beta didn't make it off the planet some other way?

My name is from Star Wars. Now you know.

Feel free to follow me on my twitter and stalk me.

I hope it follows the book's plot. That was a great story line.

Your in Bad Company.

I think it should follow the main events, it'd be cool to be fighting and look up and see huge shards of Ships falling and burning up in the atmosphere from the Orbital MAC cannons and the like.

Plus their was a little bit of space battles with infantry, imagine fighting in zero gee on the side of a space station repelling covenant o.O

(but I don't think they should follow the actual book storyline with fred and them, maybe some interaction, but not play as them or the like)
