Im getting sick of people who havent read the book asking pretty dumb questions about the upcoming game, Halo Reach, so here I will post info on different aspects of the game, and awnser posts to any questions anybody has.

The game, I'm guessing, will have 5 main characters, Master Chiefs "Blue Squad." It will comprise of John(team leader), Kelly(known for ridiculous speed), Sam(by far the biggest and strongest spartan), Linda(an amazing lone wolf sniper, shooting banshee noobs FTW), and Fred(a great all around spartan like chief, specializing in close quarters combat instead of luck)

I was looking at the silhoutte of the spartans for the game and noticed that there were five, which led me to conclude that Sam WOULD be in the game, even though he sacrifices himself so that John and Linda can destroy a covenant ship, earlier in the story. Which I can also conclude from that the game will not just be the Fall of reach, but also the events leading up to it.

It would be cool, regarding the different Spartans styles, if depending on which spartan you played, you got certain skills that others didn't, (Kelly is a lot faster but Sam is the strongest)

I can also concur, that because of how weapons are used in the book, weapon customability will be available in the game.

NO, there will not be a Battle Rifle OR SMG unless they decide to butcher the story. Both of those guns weren't found or used until the third book, First Strike(my favorite)when Fred, Kelly, and the members of red squad(Will and James) were in an underground ONI lab and discovered the prototype weapons and the prototype Mark 6 armor.

ANY other questions please ask I will be glad to answer about story, characters, weapons, etc.

And a little side note, if you HAVE read the books, wouldn't a game for First Strike be awesome? I mean, they really need to gap the storyline between First Strike and Halo 2 already, because the peculation is killing me. If you know, at the end of First Strike, leading up to Halo 2, Fred, Will, and Linda are still alive and with the chief. Kelly has been whisked away by Dr. Halsey and that story probably leads up to the Marathon franchise, as no one knows why she did. Although I have heard that you meet the creator of Cortana in the Marathon games, which indirectly IS Dr. Halsey, so idk. So why are there still 4 Spartans left supposedly 1 month before Halo 2 starts?

Well enough with the rambling, any questions about Reach please ask and I will awnser to the best of my knowledge

You sure you read the books? There really isn't much of a gap between First Strike and Halo 2. Also, you say you want a game about First Strike yet you mention Sam, and you even mention how he died. So the game wont really be about First Strike.

As to having them make a game about First Strike? I think this is one of the dumbest moves ever. Why make a game about a book which you already know what happens in it? They should cover everything that DIDN'T get explained in the book First Strike. What happened to all the other Spartans? You can't just assume that they just died and the only Spartans on Reach alive were the members of Red Team John found.

Well, in the books,Master Chiefs squad IS blue squad, like i said before, consisting of John, Fred, Kelly, Linda, and Sam, as he refers to them as "blue 01, blue 02" and so on, I cant remember everyone, but I know red squad is made up partially of Will, James, and Li, and I know there's more but I cant remember their names

You made it further than I did.

I stopped reading at "Im getting sick of people who havent read the book asking pretty dumb questions about the upcoming game, Halo Reach..."

No one has said a damn thing about the game. We don't know if the game will be any kind of port of the book AT ALL. The ONLY reason why people are guessing that is because of the planet Reach and the silhouettes (sp?) at the end of the teaser trailer.

While I will admit that I won't be surprised if the game does turn out to be a port of a large portion of The Fall of Reach, people need to quit making baseless accusations about what the game is until we get some genuine information.

I realize Sam isn't in First Strike, I never said he was, and This game is called Halo Reach, not Halo First Strike, so naturally its going to be about the fall of Reach, and to counter act your point, there is a HUGE gap between First Strike and Halo 2, Five sparans are still alive, and yet they make no mention of them anywhere in Halo 2.

The book, Halo: Fall of Reach, is about the spartan training program, Master Chief, and the fate that the planet Reach goes through at the end. The game is CALLED Halo Reach, and after The Fall happens, the planet is glassed except for a small portion with surviving red and blue squad Spartans, and surviving navy personnel, along with Dr, Halsey..

So a game that's called Halo:Reach, seems like to me that it will be about how Reach was glassed and the epic fight John and Linda had in space, and the fight Fred and Kelly had down on the surface of Reach, and also consider the trailer SHOWS Reach getting glassed...

the only other reason they would call it Halo Reach is if it were the story of First Strike, which wouldn't make sense. Why would they call the game halo Reach if its about halo First Strikes story? just a thought....

Ghost of Onyx omg i love the book almost done with it and i'm loving every page. Also i think a First strike game would be cool, but bad at the same time, we already know the story, cool thing is that we get to play those awesome scenes.

No one has said a damn thing about the game. We don't know if the game will be any kind of port of the book AT ALL.

Through logic and reasoning, we know that Bungie wouldn't make a game based off of either Halo: Reach or Halo: First Strike.

Why? To make a proper length videogame about either of the books, bungie would have to do one of two things:
>Embellish the Hell out of every minor action scene in the book.
>Change the canon, making the books completely worthless.

Neither one they will do, because it is entirely unneccesary.

Why focus on the spartans in the books when you can instead focus on five unknown spartans you've never heard of? We know what happens to the spartans in the book. To play a videogame about the book would be boring, theres no tension at all, you know exactly what is going to happen, you've read the book.

By setting the videogame at the same time period of the book and by focusing on people barely mentioned in the book, you can create an original and interesting story without throwing canon under the bus.

Why do you think they mentioned Spartan 259 and Spartan 320 in the trailer? Because they are merely extras that you see briefly at the beginning of the game before Chief and Friends set off on a grand adventure? Heck no. They will be two of the five spartans you see in the forum banner. I'd bet my mongooose splatters on it.

everyone has brought up good points..

this thread is to answer questions about the game, Halo Reach, based of the fact that it will be based on the book.

In the trailer, it says "From the beginning, you know the end" another clue that the story is the books as well...

what do you mean they couldn't make a game based off the book?! Look at the book The Flood... the first halo game is based off of that and IT wasn't a mirage of cut scenes everywhere...

What is the first level of the Halo 3 Campaign? Sierra 117. How do they refer to the Chief at the beginning of Crow's Nest? Sierra 117.

Sure, it just stands for S 320 or S 259, but what else could it be? We know that we will be playing as a spartan in a five man squad of spartans. This has been confirmed. So what else would the S possibly stand for?

  • 10.15.2009 4:37 PM PDT

Wow. you use the books as reference, but you fail to remember Sam died 24 years before the events in The fall of Reach and First Strike. He can't be in either for of the game as he is DEAD.

We basically know who all the Spartans are. The one's who don't actually get "names" either died in the pelican crash or sometime closely after. Seeing as that was during the events of "First Strike", I doubt we'd see them.

There was never a mention of Spartan 259 or 320. Just the Callsign "Sierra".

Sexy?

I wouldn't assume anything. This is a teaser (and Bungie likes to tease a lot) I wouldn't expect anything from it (names) to end up in the final game.

They did, however, mention that there are Spartans on the ground, and the only Spartans deployed ON the ground of Reach was Fred's squad and the red squad. Im not here to argue about facts about the story, I know what I'm talking about, I havent gotten to The Ghosts of Onyx, The Cole protocol, or Contact Harvest yet though, so maybe you people that have read those have an advantage over me in knowledge...

this thread is to answer questions about the game, Halo Reach, based of the fact that it will be based on the book.

This is not a fact. In the trailer, it did not say "Halo: Reach: Inspired by the best-selling book Halo: Fall of Reach."

It will happen during the battle of Reach, yes, but it will not be based off the book.

As for "The Flood", that was a book based off a videogame. Huge difference from "Fall of Reach" which was based off the background story of a videogame.

If you base your fact on the book alone, but if ODST has not taught us anything of how Bungie tells thier stories it is very possible that NONE of the events in the book aside from major story archs, (ie. the glassing of the planet and the fall of the defence grid.) will even be in HALO:Reach. There is no factual info stating any of the characters in the books will even be present in the new game.
