this thread wasnt for people that DONT think the game will be based off the book to come in and express their ideas...
Then allow me to formally welcome you to the "Halo Reach Forum". If you were looking for the "Halo Reach Support Group of Happiness and Understanding", you took a wrong turn.
We like to have discussions in this forum. To clarify, a discussion does not consist of one user posting his hypothesis for how the game will turn out so that every other user in the forum can walk up and give him a good pat on the back for his effort.
I critically analyze what you are saying not because I want to ruin your day, but in the hopes that everyone in this forum will develop a better understanding of how Reach will turn out. Or at the very least, hear from different view points.

There was never a mention of Spartan 259 or 320. Just the Callsign "Sierra".
Sierra is the NATO phonetic alphabet word to stand for "S". Master Chief has been refered to in the Halo 3 campaign as "Sierra 117." In other words, "S-117". Master Chief is Spartan 117. S-117, Spartan 117, makes sense right?
We basically know who all the Spartans are. The one's who don't actually get "names" either died in the pelican crash or sometime closely after. Seeing as that was during the events of "First Strike", I doubt we'd see them.
Quote to me the line in the book which specically says "Un-named spartans A, B, C, D, and E, crashed into the ground and were dead, dead dead, and very dead. Any questions?" Thats correct, it never does explore what happens to them.
Sure, they might die "sometime closely after", but do you see how vague that is? Bungie can make an entire videogame about how this squad of Spartans fight to survive against overwhelming odds only to eventually die. That is the point. We do not know what happened to them, so Bungie can fill in the story as they go and do almost whatever they want and not only make an excellent videogame but keep the story within Canon.
Besides, we have never seen a squad of spartans fighting together, look at what Master Chief did by himself. The legendary power of the spartans contrasts nicely with their near inevitiable doom and creates a gripping story.
Oh, and don't confuse the events of First Strike with the prologue for First Strike.
