Holy Hell. The Bungie.net Forums have sunk to an all time new low.

Congratulations guys.

Except for the people that disagree with this thread.

Be not afraid of greatness; some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.

It doesn't ruin CTF...in fact it makes it a faster more competitive game type.

I assume the reason this thread is here is because someone has been getting owned in CTF because more people are learning how to juggle and you haven't got it mastered yet.

Seriously...it's not that hard to learn.

Sadly thats usually the case when someone posts that something should be removed, fixed, or changed. But now that you said that they are gonna swarm all over you claiming thats not why, they can do it, they just dont like it. Some will even claim its a glitch, which its not.

  • 10.22.2009 1:49 AM PDT

After going over this thread I really would just like anyone who is against flag running to acknowledge these points that I have seen throughout this thread go unanswered.

1. If Bungie didn't intend or want "flag juggling" in Halo 3 then why has it yet to be "fixed" after the game's release over 2 years ago?

2. Flag running tricks have been around in every single Halo game. Don't you think if Bungie were completely against such things it would have been completely removed from this game all together?

3. Why is the announcer only annoying when someone is flag juggling? In any competitive game of KoTH where good teams are forcing the other team out of the hill and taking it back over I experience far more announcer time with hills being contested and controlled. Are you going to complain about that one too?

Exactly.
I personally dislike it when the opposing team ghosts the flag, cause then I have no idea where to go to cut it off.
And I was getting extremely annoyed earlier in a game of CTF on Pit in Team Throwback. This kid was taking forever on my team to take the flag down long hall, because he was just holding it, while the other team had our flag and was juggling it.

And I'm sure the OP either didn't play Halo 2, or hated CTF in Halo 2. Flag juggling was even MORE beneficial in that game, because the flag bounced like a bouncy ball across the map.

How is that not balanced?

Running the flag IS balanced, whichever way you do it. Running the flag is not difficult, and if other people/teams are beating you because of that sole issue (which i strongly believe is not REALLy the issue here....), then just learn how to run the flag.
Call it tactical or competitive, which it is, but anyone in the game has the ability to run the flag and by no means is it a glitch or problem that needs to be addressed such as ball/flag glitching. The reason players actually run the flag is because if you just walk across the map your a big, slow target that takes 30 seconds to run the flag from one side of the Pit to the other.
I don't care if your a level 10 or a level 50 in whatever play list, running the flag is just smart, and is VERY BASIC AND EXTREMELY EASY. Running the flag is an extremely basic fundamental to halo 3; it is quite ridiculous that this thread is being made two years after the games release, arguing that such a basic and simple yet EXTREMELY USEFUL tactic should be taken out of the game.
Bungie will never even consider your request, and to be honest, you guys are extremely lucky that mlgpro.com forum users are even gracing your forums with our presence. I mean seriously, whats next? Are you guys gonna petition against people who four-shot? because it is seriously "annoying" and "ruins the game" right? I'm not trying to be harsh but you guys are seriously making your harsh reality very obvious.
And for those of you who dont know, all you have to do to run the flag is press your control for either shoot or nade, and then your control for picking up flag.

TWO BUTTONS. PATHETIC.

I think "objective bouncing" is an unintended consequence of the quick drop/pick-up features Bungie put in to keep objective carriers from being too "bound" to the object. It has become part of the gaming strategy up to this point, but it doesn't need to be that way in Reach. The new game can include a custom games feature that creates a lag in a player's traits returning to normal after dropping an objective. The feature would have the same variable time span option of settings in the current game. I would recommend that all built-in gametypes for Reach except Oddball have a two-second delay after dropping the objective before regaining normal traits.

It was in the previous games, was considered acceptable to remain after all playtesting, and has yet to be "fixed" in any way shape or form by Bungie.

Unintended? I think not. Oh and why should Oddball be any different? This would allow for ball running, and why should someone holding the ball be allowed to fight at full ability instead of someone with the flag?

Hey hey hey, needler is fun to make kids cry, nothing better then killing a kid with a AR in a close range battle with a needler.

Honestly... If anyone agrees with the OP then you are -blam!- stupid just like him... "Oh I think the BR is too overpowered" "Flag running ruins the game!"...

News flash kid!
Bungie already announced that Reach is going to be toned for competitive gamers and the skill dedicated crowd...

So welcome back the 3-shot Halo:CE pistol and and skill oriented game...

Casual gamers can suck a big one.

You can haz medal that says "I haz medal, it iz bettar den R3C0NZ!"

More then half the people that posted here (Including myself) agree with you. And these kids cant handle the fact that some things they will not be good with, and someone could be great with it. To them its unfair that someone can kill them for 70 feet away with a BR when they cant do it themselves.

It takes skill to run the flag like that. It is an advanced gameplay tactic.

If Bungie fixes this they might as well put in guns that shoot hamburgers at people.

But if they do fix it, they should also fix the problem with; melees not registering, sniper bullets not registering, the battle rifle's spread, ip flooding, host booting, melee system, etc., etc.

I can't believe someone actually made a thread about this.....it's just......sad

If you can't catch a flag runner on any map regardless of whether he is "flag bouncing" or not then:

a) He's in a vehicle.
b) You're 4 down and getting spawn killed.
c) You're taking the long route to get to him.
d) You're confused because you really don't know where he went but you notice the icons on your screen that imply that he's "flag bouncing" so you come here to vent your frustration for losing.

Anyway, it's a legitimate tactic that can be performed by anyone so think before you say its ruining the game.

I was debating as to if I should post on here or not and decided to. First off removing it seems pointless and stupid, it would slow game play down for one. Second everyone saying it wasint intended, if they didnt want it to be possible it wouldint be. They greatly reduced the effectiveness from the previous two games and as I just stated if they didnt want it to be possible you wouldint be able to do it. When people started hiding to win games Bungie didnt like it so they got rid of it. When everyone started the modded screenshot craze Bungie didnt like it and put an end to it. Now i've seen some people complain about the anoyying sound, I laugh at that its not even that anoyying. I suppose you probly get sick of hearing your gun fire and the gain the lead sound too. Most the kids who are complaining about this, and I mean no offense to you. Are players in the lower ranks who I'm assuming find it difficult to keep up with higher skilled players using this tactic. Then theres the issue you say its unbalanced lets look at a few aspects of Halo 3 that are clearly unfair or unbalanced. The beat down system is mediocre at best, There are many equipment items I would consider to be unbalanced such as Regen or Power Drain. Its completely fine to be able to hit X once and down an entire teams sheilds in a matter of seconds, yet you say its unfair to run a flag at a slightly faster pace then normal. Also Bungie fixes Unbalanced issues I'm sure we all used the Hornet before it got nerfed. I never heard you complain about that being unbalanced even though it clearly was. Also I have to get this out now to the kid who said the br is overpowered you made me almost die laughing, I dont see how a weapon that requires you to lead your shots depending on range is overpowered. Yet I'm almost certain you hit Y instantly for that Ar which takes no skill to aim and can be used to drop shields like a power drainer at close range.
Now onto your other points, you claim that it ruins games and makes it now I quote you on this "Too hard to catch the flag runner"I didnt know playing against real humans not dumb Ai's was suppose to be easy. If your finding a player or team hard could it not be for the fact that maybe just maybe they are superior in skill to you. Then theres your point about how it takes no skill what so ever, yes it is easy to run the flag. However there are many players who can run it much faster and better than others and that does take skill. Also how is this tactic any diffrent than any others in halo, players do this to be able to capture and win. Thats the same motive most the kids on this forums have or you wouldint play. Camping around corners with shotguns, swords, hiding and camping in bubble shields are all tactics I see used commonly by mostly players from this forum. Now I find those to take no skill what so ever so should they be removed too? In the end its a way to play the game, a way to get an advantage, to get the upper hand and win, is that not the point of the game? You can say im a Br noob, call me a hardcore gamer, mlg nerd or something like most people from b.net. That would make you look like a kid in my eyes though, you could say you dont play this game to win ect like i've seen before. Which if that is the case pick up a diffrent game. You can say you play for fun not to be competitive but the fact is your playing a FPS against other players that in itself is competitive no matter what your playing. When the object of the game is to beat the other players you have competition simple as that. If theres any points I missed or you dont think I destroyed enough please send me a personal message and I will gladly re-read my post and demolish them. Im just amazed that people complain about this when there are clearly much bigger issues, why complain about this and call it cheating when there are kids Host booting, Lag Switching, Bridging and everything else. What it all comes down to and dont take offense, is that you have most likely gotten beat by this tactic by and listen to this last part, superior players. This gives you a quicker flag route which is smart if you can capitalize on it, and lets face it Halo 3 usually comes down to Smarts and Teamwork.

Dude. Paragraphs. PARAGRAPHS.

I was going for that great wall of China look, and by this reply I'm going to assume I demolished all the idiotic reasons why it should be removed.

No, just no.

I'm pretty sure casual gamers will enjoy the game either way. I consider myself a "casual" gamer but even I don't understand all this uproar of flag-running. I'm definitely against "dumbing" the game down.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

Flag running might make the gameplay "faster", but it in no way makes the gameplay more competetive. If anything, it makes it less.

How, you ask? If you're able to get the flag halfway across the map due to juggling, you might only need to grab it one more time for a cap.

If you're not juggling, and get it about 1/4 of the way there, it may take 2 or 3 more grabs to get it to your base.

It may be longer/slower, but it's more competitive in the sense that you have to try more than 2 damn times to grab the flag and cap it.

  • 10.22.2009 8:17 AM PDT

ur not a noob, ur just a random that doenst know how to play the game. flag running takes skill, it's a leggit tactic don't whine about it becaus u can't do it seriously...

  • 10.22.2009 8:17 AM PDT

Can we remove camping as well? Flag running does not ruin the fun in flag games. Almost all FPS games have a type of flag running technique, why take it out if it does not negatively effect the game.

Every person in Halo 3 is capable of flag running just like they have the ability of camping. Picking up and throwing the flag increases the speed of the game and we all want halo to be a fast paced game. Also, is this only for flag or for all objective items as well? If every person in Halo 3 is capable to use two buttons to throw a flag then it is a legitimate strategy.

I have a feeling that people that are against flag running are probably mad because they lost to some kids that were doing it. It has been around since Halo 1 and does not need a change. (just like holding down the crouch button to camp)

Dude I feel your pain when it comes to CTF games. I get so sick of hearing flag drop, flag taken, flag drop, flag taken through my TV speaker. Give me away to turn that guy off or make it so when you pick the flag up you can't drop the flag in till you die or make it so if you carry the flag back to your base with 1-4 drops you will get extra points so then there is a reason to not drop throw it all the time.

But the only reason why people drop throw it is because they play on small maps for CTF in Halo 3. In Halo 1 or CE whatever you want to call it, the people that would try to drop throw the flag would get killed very fast like it still is in Halo 2 and 3. But the only difference about Halo 1 is 1. you die a hell a lot faster and 2. There is touch return on. So basically if you drop run the flag and you die as soon as the enemy touches the flag its goes right back to the base so all that flag taken, flag drop, flag taken, flag drop was for nothing. Now yes they do have that in MLG but like I said before its played on a small map even if you play it on The Pit or Narrows its still a small map so its easy to drop throw the flag and win. Now if they went to big maps for MLG which most likely won't happen then you would have to work as a team to get the flag.

Now they do have Team Throwback in Halo 3 that has 2 Flag Classic (32.8%) - Players attempt to capture the opposing team's flag. First team to three captures wins. Players spawn with Battle Rifles and Assault Rifles. Flag Traits: Must be home to score, 3 second touch return, 10 second reset. 15 minute match time limit. But they only have Valhalla (Default) to go to for a 2 flag CTF games. So that's the only big map they put in there but at least there is one instead of none. Well all I was trying to say they need more big maps for Halo: Reach for CTF games. But in Halo 3 they should only play Multi Flag BR on big maps so there less drop throwing that's all. :)

But for all the people that disagree with your message I would say 75% of the people don't play Objective Games a lot and they love to drop throw the flag which they pick it up from Halo 2 and 3 and they don't want to change there ways to work more as a team or there just trying to hate on your thread so don't listen to them. Come on if don't have anything good to say then go somewhere else dude. :(

  • 10.22.2009 8:56 AM PDT

Just make it to where you can't keep on pick it up and drop it, put a limit on it. Making it where you have to be looking right at the flag to pick it up would create more problems than good.
