Spartans since birth were taught all differnt kind of martial arts to make them excellent killers. And while battles rely heavily on guns close quarters weapons still get used time to time.

So do you think it would be cool if there were all different kind of different melee weapons like katana, sci (think Raphael from turtles), staff, kali sticks, nun chucks etc that could be unlocked via achievement and then displayed on the back like the katana is now or possibly on the opposite leg for small weapons (think leg opposit to where the PP is stashed) or on the chest like CQB is now.

Added to that, if lag permitted, that when we melee the animation would be unique to those melee weapons although damage would still be the same.

thoughts, comments?

Why do spartans need melee weapons when they can kill people by punching them with their fist? There won't be a wieldable human melee weapon in Reach. Why? The humans already have a melee ranged weapon, its called the Shotgun.

Oh, and there won't be hayabusa armor either because Bungie used up that favor from Team Ninja for letting them use (Nicole?) in that one fighting game.

No Group Invites.
Worst idea ever...http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=8664824

I would like some kind of knives or gun holsters that you could add on. I'm not a big fan of the idea of just swords everywhere, Spartans aren't ninjas, even though they can be just as quiet and deadly. Of course, if I didn't like having swords all over my armor, I just wouldn't apply them, so it's still a nice idea. Add the chance to unlock gun holsters or something similar to that and you have my vote.
And also, I don't think we should be able to actually use the melee weapons. They should just be there for decoration.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

i see your points but let me counter

Why do spartans need melee weapons when they can kill people by punching them with their fist?

- well even a spartans fist is inferior to a well made sword powered bya spartan using their full strength. Added to that i see hwo they can kill normal humans witha punch or maybe even unshielded weak aliens liek grunst or jackels. But it doesnt make sense that a simple punch can kill an elite or a spartan when shielded. The 2 are of the same strength and at that level if both are equal its the equivalent to 2 normal people punching each other and hardly ever doe one punch kill someone.

There won't be a wieldable human melee weapon in Reach. Why? The humans already have a melee ranged weapon, its called the Shotgun.

- even in todays military soldiers still carry melee weapons such as combat knives and bayonnets. plus every one cant always carry a shotgun and shotguns run out of ammo too.

also the shotgun in halo isn't even really accurate seeing as that in 500+ years in the future we are still using pump shotguns while we already have automatic shotguns that are capable of shooting grenades and shotgun rounds (go to youtube and search for automatic shotgun)

Oh, and there won't be hayabusa armor either because Bungie used up that favor from Team Ninja for letting them use (Nicole?) in that one fighting game

-yeh i know about this but team ninja didn't invent the katana and so it can be implemented. we just cant have the helmet cuz it looks too much like the guy in ninja gaiden

If ya ask me the Hayabusa armor was kinda stupid... It didnt even look like it belonged in the Halo Universe. It look like a bunch of Shredders from TMNT running around in multiplayer lol... It looked pretty stupid!

Allow me to say this: You know the bruteshot? It has a giant ass blade on it. This gives it bonus damage when you melee. Do you know how much?

72 damage compared to 70. Its only useful in incredibly close beatdown calculations or fights inside of regenerators. Thats about it.

For a normal soldier, it might make sense to carry a knife, but for a Spartan? They kill people regardless. It might be nice to have that slight bonus, but its a choice between lugging around a sword or knife that can only kill in two hits at close range or picking up a Spiker, Mauler, or Bruteshot and be able to kill in two hits at close range and fire spikes / grenades / shotgun blasts.
