Subject: Do you think its time we see a real "battle"

I know what your thinking "this guy doesnt know what hes talkin 'bout we always battle the covenant"
But what i mean by "battle" is like in stead of just coming apon a squad of brutes and grunts and quickly killing them, you and hundreds of other marines (and spartons) fighting against thousands of covvys! Like you have to stay behiend cover or youll have a slim chance of survival on lengenday! Just imagine a wwII battle with hundreds (or thousands) of men charging the opposing side! And sonce reach was of epic proportions its not unimagineable siriusly this would be great final level! If youve ever played halo wars then think of this... You (and your opponet) have been hoarding supplys and you (both) have a massive army! Then in the final moments you legions clash in an epic battle of awsomeness! This is what we want in reach instead of a sparton and a couple squads of marines fighting a couple grunts and brutes (which is essenchaly what we always see in the halo games)

Come on bungie! That would be epic! If this is your last game do it right and go out with an battle of epic preporsions!

"A Chain is Only as Strong as it's Weakest Link"

"You're not that bad...I'm just that good!"

Ok, first off: it's "SpartAn" not "SpartOn". Then it's "Covies" not "Cowys"

Now that we got that out of the way, your idea is flawed. You never stated whether your idea was for a FPS shooter or a strategy game (i.e. Halo Wars). If it was the ladder, then NO!
Halo has always been a FPS and it shoud stay that way!

If you did mean it as an FPS, then it's not possible. There's no way you could have that many bodies in a game and still have anything close to good gameplay. It simply won't work from a technological stand point.

I think they need to leave the campaign alone, but they need to expand on the MM a little. I would love to see larger multiplayer games in Reach. Mainly larger maps with the use of the Pelicans and Phantoms. That would be epic!

As for the campaign, just leave it alone. It's worked 4 times already, why not a fifth?

It's "latter" not "ladder" and "standpoint" not "stand point."

Yep i agree halo reach hopefully has HUGE BATTLES, Like maybe Lord of the rings? space battles like star wars, also ground with 1000s of marines and covenant on the screen.

There are alot of people complaining how inferior the H3 campaign was compared to H1 and H2.

And sadly,i have to agree. The Xbox360 isen't that much of a powerbeast anymore if you compare them to the newest PC's.
Unless you tone down the graphics immensly,it's impossible to have such gigantic awesome battles.

And i believe the campaign should get ATLEAST as much attention as that damn overrated muliplayer.
(Don't get upset, its just my opinion)

Stop PMing me if you are group recruiting.

There are no "battles" when Spartans are involved, it's just Grunts getting shot in the head and Elites getting melee'd.

3 DONT ASK HOW I KNOW THIS INFO YOU R-TARDS!!!

  • 10.16.2009 12:32 PM PDT

How would it be really laggy. There are games that currently do this that don't lag at all. I think that Reach is going to go towards a MMO type of game play. I want to have Online battles that are part of a much larger game. I think a huge level of 1000s in the regular game would be awesome. Imagine getting a kill-....

Ummm, no...so i made two errors in my entire paragraph. Sorry i'm not perfect. At least i know how to spell the main character in all of the Halo games.

And btw, it's easy to push the "quote" buttong right below the text box, the "@The Ghost" thing is really outdated for this forum.

At least my post wasn't only a correction of grammar (as was yours). I also added something to the thread. So please, either contribute, or leave.

Now, back on topic. I agree with the post about the PC's. The Xbox 360 was "super" when it was released but now PC's have advanced so far that it's pretty outdated.

For something like this to be done (large scale battles), the graphics would have to be severely reduced, and i, for one, don't want that at all!

Oh snap! Oh yes he did! >_<

Anyhow, moving on; No, I don't think we will see a real battle.

That is, if you mean large scale, massive front lines kind of a deal. Because well, that is just wishful thinking.

It hasn't worked four times. It worked first time, did okay second time, was barely passable third time and the fourth time (ODST) was only just better than the third. So actually, it's worked once.

And as for the OP, you have a good point and I hope we see something similar to what you are describing. While thousands of troops are impossible, I do believe it would be possible to stage large battles containing many NPCS, maybe up to fifty, perhaps even more.

You underestimate the Xbox 360.

Graphics won;t have to be reduced, in fact there is plenty of room for them to be made better, while still allowing huge battles. Many games for the Xbox have handled large amounts of NPCS with good graphics and no problems. While hundreds of NPCs is unlikely, it is still possible to stage large, epic battles.

  • 10.21.2009 9:51 AM PDT

The problem with super nice graphics is that they tend to focus on the code for such and use up the majority of space on that. Many programmers see sweet new tech and go how much crap can I cram into it without thinking about other aspects. I agree, too see 1000 grunts running down a hill after you would be cool, but to make them look awsome, interactive and independant of each other would be the nail in the coffin so to say as there wouldn't be any room to actually animate them and give them AI.

But why when the Aliens could vaporize you with there crazy super hydooken orbital death lasers? :)

any way...

A fight like the end of the "Covenant" level would be cool in halo 3. but for the most part halo takes place on a very small scale, and close quarters

I never found time to read the Book but correct me if I'm wrong

This is just an Observation of Sci-fi interplanetary warfare in general. having Orbital superiority in the Era of interplanetary warfare, is like having Air superiority today. once you enemy has that over you; guerrilla warfare and small engagements are about all you could do to fight occupation.

I'm assuming the Covenant obliterated the UNSC, over reach very fast. from what i seen and herd in halo2, the Halo reach announcement, abd friends who did read the book

and this is just a question did the Covenant want to occupy reach, or eradicate it of all inhabitants?

Ha! Fixed my ass, I fixed it for you in the quote.

100 person battles?

When was the last time Bungie even did a background right? Last time I checked every game after Halo CE just had one of copy paste picture backgrounds with nothing moving. Remember Halo 3 everyone? Remember the ad campaign "Finish the Fight" and that awesome battle scene (I know that the designers weren't told anything about the game but still) and how Bungie PROMISED us that we would get the feeling that we were really Finishing the Fight in Halo 3?

What did we get instead? 3 levels on Earth without going through one city street, Scarab battles being nailed off as HUGE battles when they were as boring as -blam!- and a cheap way to put one in and only 5 or 7 units to fight at one time, the only time I felt like I was in a big battle on Halo 3 as on The Storm and The Ark other than that....I don't expect alot of them on Halo Reach
