Zip it up - Zip it out

So I'm sorry, I'm sure this will turn into a big flame war which is why I never post. But I legitimately have a question/issue with the story.

I personally would hate it if the end of Halo 3 involved time travel. But I can't ignore it.

Why, at the beginning of Halo 1 (CE), is Master Chief in a cryo tube (or whatever they're called)? Isn't the Pillar of Autumn fleeing Reach? Where Master Chief was fighting? Why would he enter a sleep status only to be woken up moments later.

Anyway, don't worry, I'm on your side. I think it would be lame. Just trying to understand. Seems odd 3 ends with a sleep tube and CE starts with one.

Just looking for answers/opinions. Could 2 chiefs exist on Reach... one sacrificing himself? Lots of holes - like the armor and things I probably haven't even considered. Just really confused about the sleep status. Like "oh god, war... better head to bed".

Regardless, love the games - ODST rocked. Can't wait for Reach. Eventual movie better not suck. The world is too good to let someone ruin it onscreen.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Even though CE takes place after Autumn flee's Reach, the journey was not instant. It is typical UNSC practice that all non-essential personele enter cryo when travelling through slip-space. Reading the novels will help fill some of the time-line holes for you.

If you read this, you've wasted a few seconds of your life.

Well, in the fall of Reach, You'll read that the master chief and linda leave before the battle on the surface actually starts. They have a mision to distroy a human ship and linda is wounded badly as the covenant also attacks the ship. They both flee to the pillar of automn after they've completed their mision and then the pillar of automn flees to halo.

*sigh* more time travel theory *covers face*

A time traval thing would just be stupid.

  • 10.16.2009 1:26 PM PDT

I can haz time traveling reconz?

Anyway, what SweetTRIX said was right. They did not need Master cheif while traveling until they got boarded, so he was put into cryo sleep until that time. And the cryo tube at the end of Halo 3 would have nothing to do with Halo 1s cry tube considering he was in a half destroyed ship at the end of Halo 3. But I doubt Time Travel theory is right, i mean after seeing what the community thinks of it for the most part, it might kill the game if they plan on putting something like it in.

If Linda was on the POA too then what happend to her? did she die or somthing?

tbh i dont mind time travel it would be pretty cool, as long as master cheif is in the story im fine i love master chief. "in the beggining you know the end" as seen in the reach trailer could be a hint

In the book she had flatlined moments before John put her in cryo, esentially freezing her before she could go brain dead in the hopes of her being revived later. In the game MC was handled as a lone Spartan.

Cool - makes sense. And I just watched the Halo CE intro again. Seems like some time did lapse.

I would hate it - just wanted to make sure.

I hate that people still had to post anti-time travel stuff despite seeing it in the title of the post. People are amazing.

Honestly though, this Reach battle will be great, feels like Empire for Star Wars.

I've foolishly spent the last 2 days on Halopedia reading up on all this stuff. Addictive.

Yea, I would recommend all but The Flood and The Cole Protocol. Their not terrible, their just not really necessary, specifically The Flood.

You can get the first 3 books for about $16 from Buy.com, and you can find some of the others for under $10.

the reason mc gets in a pod is simply bungie making the games come full circle, kind of ending where they started.

bungie could potentially turn it into a time travel thing but.... i don't think so.

now that i think about it, if he was endlessly going back in time wouldn't he eventually die of old age?... and wouldn't he remember everything like the flood, the end of the war, etc?

or does time travel cause his mind to erase the events of halo 1-3 and somehow reverse his age?

because of these problems i see it as highly (extremely) unlikely that bungie will pull a doc brown on us.
