NOTE: I am not talking about "Flag Running/Bouncing.

For those of you who don't know what the objective toss is, it's when you let go of the flag, and it's kind of tossed a bit, rather than dropping straight to the ground like in Halo 3. This was in Halo 1 & 2 and in my experience, people only used this for CTF games. It was actually toned down for Halo 2, but it was still there.

Personally, I think the objective toss should be in Reach. In my opinion, it opened up a lot of strategies and made Objective games less monotonous.

We all know know Midship from Halo 2, right? One of my favorite strategies was to grab the flag, go right throught middle where the shotgun is, and toss the flag to a teammate standing by the "window" of our base and he'd score it.

I think it varies up matches and rather than having just a couple of ways to score a flag capture, it gives you many ways. It's one of the reasons why I like flag matches in Halo 1 & 2 a lot more than in Halo 3.

Thoughts?

Edit #1
I'm all for a Custom Game option that allows you to adjust "Flag Weight" or something like that. The less it weighs, the farther (and higher) you can toss it.

Oh, whoops, you weren't exactly talking about flag running. I just derailed your thread didn't I? My bad.

Maybe they should make it an option, but personally I think that the flag in Reach should just immediately fall to the ground and stick there until it is returned or picked up. None of this "blow the flag across all of vahalla using fusion coils."

Golf Wang. Brony.

I guess it's okay. It would kind of suck for gametypes that have no returns, though.

Optional?

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

Honestly, that isn't an idea I like.

I remember in Halo: CE how people would be able to get into their base almost instantly because of the grate that allowed the attacking team to get the flag with minimal effort. Plus, the whole "Flag Dropped! Flag Taken! Flag Dropped! Flag Taken!" thing gets really annoying.

So true.

I would not mind if so much if the "Flag drop, flag taken, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc ,etc, etc flag scored" stuff is not there. Besides it would encourage flag running even more. It does not make that big of a difference and besides most people drop the flag and spend an extra 10 seconds trying to grab it again.

But for stuff like passing the flag through windows and such, that would be find. It is just a peice of cloth on a stick right?

It could have huge gameplay rammifications. What if I wanted to forge a map with a big gap that you had to go around the long way to get around. What if I could jump halfway and throw the flag to the other side and my team mates could score it?

Thats pretty huge! I might not want that to happen.

So if anything, make it an option for custom games.

Like a "Flag Weight" option? That could work.

For custom games yes, there should be an option, but most mm maps are just a plain map with a box here, box there. So, it would not effect gameplay that much.

So long as the flag doesn't become less dense than air :)

Small maps like Lockout which would have been amazing for intense CTF games turned into automatic ties because of this tactic. It really ruins a map. I like the way H3 is. You can run the flag and hand the flag off to a slightly higher level, but it doesn't break a map like it used to.

Okay, I found this video for flag tossing on Boarding Action in Halo 1. This IS NOT what I want, at least not to the extent of the video. Maybe less than Halo 2's toss, but more than Halo 3's (Which is almost non-existent) But I'm all for a custom game option that reduces "Flag Weight", allowing varying tossing distances.

Still, you have to admit, that video is pretty cool. I might try that the next time I play Halo 1...

I would like to invite you to the most active group there is, Black Water Ops. Boasting over 4000 members this is one of the fastest growing groups and proven to be one of the most active b.net groups. An amazing experience awaits you with weekly game nights, photo contests, and forging contests. This is one decision you won't regret. Welcome to the family!

Yeah, flag *tossing* is fairly good, because you can either go stealthy and slow, or try to run it and be shown where you are to everyone on the other team.

Maybe just don't make it cheap like Halo:CE, but more between Halo 2 & Halo 3.

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

Posting on bungie.net should require that the user has had to have read a chapter book all the way through.

As long as it doesn't have glitches to it, or isn't dumb like the flag running in Halo 3 it might work out.

I don't see how there could be glitches to it, all it's really used for is to toss the flag to a higher level, at least in my experience it was.
