I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I like the Cole Protocol because it goes into the most depth in Sangheili Culture.

I'd have to say I liked ghosts of onyx the most.

I really liked the fact that it combined the spartan program (one of my favourite parts of the books) and explored the forerunners (another of my favourite parts just because they're so mysterious) more than the other books did.

IMO the writer made a big difference.

Eric Nylund wrote Fall of Reach, First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx, and he NAILED the Spartans on every level. And did pretty good with the Covenant too.

William Deitz wrote The Flood, and lets face it, he did a great job on the Flood themselves (though butchering the Covenant a little bit)

Contact Harvest was the work of Joseph Staten who is a great game plot writer as well (in seeing his work with ODST, no he did NOT write Halo 3.) He knows Brutes like no other, and did great with the rest of the Covenant as well.

Cole Protocol was written by Tobias S. Buckell, who I think knows Sangheili Culture like no other, it was fantastic on every level.

Read Ghosts of Onyx next. It's my second favorite.

If your wondering there are a few orders you can go about it.

Standalones:
Contact Harvest
Fall of Reach

Series:
Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx

(Read the series as a WHOLE, the others are just side-plots.)

For me it's between Fall of Reach, Ghosts of Onyx and the Cole Protocol, though I'm still reading Contact Harvest.

Between those three, I'd have to vote the Fall of Reach. This was a really good read. Not spectacular (like say the works of a RE Howard, HP Lovecraft or Mike Moorcock), but it was a good read, unlike most commercial novels nowadays.

It jumpstarted, the whole Halo fiction in the first place.

So, yeah. Fall of Reach, for me.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

The Cole Protocol was only good from the Covy point of view. The Spartans and UNSC stuff in that book was plain boring. Ghosts of Onyx is my favourite(just re-read it a few days ago :) Fall of Reach gives great info about the Spartans training as kids and First Strike is where the actual battle of Reach is depicted so that's awesome too.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

The Fall of Reach has large-scale action which appeals to me more. I like The Flood and all, but I have played the game so the parts about the Chief can get boring.

In terms of information, Contact Harvest was the best read. By far the most complex Halo book.

Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien.
Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar.
tenn' Ambar-metta!

"The Fall of Reach" because is the bloodiest battle of the whole UNSC - Covenant war.

Contact Harvest is my second and The Cole protocol is my third.
