How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Campaign:
CE>2>3

Why? Bungie had to work on network code in 2 and 3, but not really in Halo CE, allowing them to improve on its campaign. That, along with a development time of maybe 2 years longer.

We can only hope Bungie put lots of effort into Reach's campaign.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

In my opinion, Halo 2 has the worst campaign (the word "worst" is not accurate, becuase it is still good).

Halo CE had the best campaign because of the feel it gave you. A feeling of desperation. As though humanity was on its last leg and you were fighting up against a wall.

Reach will probably have the best campaign. It is based on Reach, so to be honest it would be hard to NOT make the most amazing campaign.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Campaign:
CE>ODST>2>3

Story:
2>CE>ODST>3

Multiplayer:
CE>3>2 (ODST is no contest)

Honestly, here:

Campaign:
CE>2>ODST>3

Story:
2>CE>ODST>3

MP:
CE>2>ODST>3

I say Halo 3 failed because Bungie tried to make it too epic and too balanced.

3's MP is better than Halo 2's. The Glitches were removed and that alone is more than enough to improve on it. ODST is no contest because it is not Competitive MP.

I'm pretty sure the OP was talking about the Campaign, not Multiplayer.

IMLWDO

Solo campaign: 2>3>1

And the reasoning would be simplest explained by the amount of content and how long the game was in relation to that content. H1 is far too repetitive, H3 isn't long enough for all the stuff it has, and H2 has it in balance. In addition to that, the quality of the campaign is top-notch most of the way through.

As for story, 2>3>1(>O) again. While Halo 1 has the best 1st-time story, it is simple and offers little for someone who beats the campaigns multiple times. H2 had both the very personal Arbiter plot and massively expanding the universe and the Covenant side of things, along with the symbolism and theories induced by it. H3 wrapped the outer universe nicely, and there's also the mid-range story of estabilishing the context of the end of the war.

Wait, what was this thread about again? Oh yeah, it is just an opinion that the campaigns have degraded. It is more than possible to present things that point toward an increase in quality.

Halo3 did a lot right but also lacked a real decent length to both it's encounters and just general campaign size - having a couple of weaker missions didn't help either

When it worked though it was beautiful and intensely fun

Reach needs to address all the quibbles from all the games

Personally i think Halo1 feels the most complete regards to it's level flow and decent size and hope Reach takes us closer to these roots

Well, I personally seem to think otherwise, with my order of campaigns go as 3>CE>2 and story as 2>3>CE

But, if anything, ODST has the best campaign and best story of the entire series. So you know, no matter how you felt about the trilogy, that Bungie has gotten back their footing.

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

The more focus the game has, the better it is.

HaloCE was amazing, Halo2 was great, Halo3 was bad, ODST was great.

Reach is only 1 place. We are once again "shipwrecked" when Covenant attacks... Many similiarities with Halo1. We might visit a Covenant ship or base, travel in barren lands... Atleast we aren't "finishing the fight" like in Halo3.

Now if only campaign used 1 full disc and multiplayer/firefight was on the 2nd one...

Actually a pretty good summary. H1 is a bit repetive, but still fun while H2 has good balance and H3 is way too short for its content. H2 has technical difficulties but as time goes by I see all of these games getting a bit unsophisticated, H1's AI isn't as good as it was etc.

But storywise H1 beats H3. Halo1 might have been generic, but it was interesting. The first half of Halo3 was way too dull trek after now-boring-Truth while the 2nd half was over the top rushing for finish line. It was a bit like Matrix:PON - I liked how detailed the beginning was, but was dissapointed to see that I jumped from Reloaded's end right to the final battle of Revolution. There should have been something in bethween.

People keep telling me to get a life... I am getting an education, I have a lovely girlfriend and alot of friends... I thought this was having a life? Gues I was wrong...

I hope Reach will be a great game, I will buy it either way because its a Halo game, and coming from Bungie, it most likely will be awesome :)

Im still hoping they will remake Halo CE with new grafics and features of the newer Halo games, that would be awesome :)
