Also I find people who write fanatic fictions usually condense the events in that they want to say as much as possible in a short chapter.
I try to take time with my fan fictions, and lead up to the main plot. Each chapter usually equates to about four or more pages.
And you have to remember that some people just don't wish to commit to the stress and hardship that is writing an original novel, especially when they are young. For example, if I really wanted to, I could probably make a 200+ page book out of the Ascendancy idea, but it would take a lot of time, and it would be pressuring. I've also got GSCEs and the like to do. So I write fan fiction, which requires a little thought, but not insane amounts of it. Once I'm older, more experienced, and ready, I'll probably tackle writing a book, and perhaps try and get it published.
And so that's the reason I write fan fiction; it allows me to practice and express my creativity without dominating my time and thoughts. It's also pretty fun. So you can bash the practice all you want Buggy, but you shan't sway my opinion.
