Reach is a big place. I'm not sure if the book covered the whole battle, but we most likely will be playing through a different story with many different ways to incorporate the Flood into Reach, so don't say there is no Flood in Halo Reach.

Also there might be more to the story of Halo Wars... So don't say that the Spirit of Fire never sent the message.

If they had been reported on, MC wouldn't have been surprised to see them in First Strike. When you come up with a race for a game, you map out its history first hand rather than arbitrarily throwing it into a novel and trying to back it up later.

////////disclaimer: this is my OPINION//////////

1. i was one of those guys that hated the flood in halo CE, sooo i really really really hope the flood are not in reach, i think the story should have been humans and covenant only, even though the story wouldn't work well without them, i just hate going from fun interesting shooter to generic zombie fighter. (there was no reason for flood in halo 2 or 3 though)

2. i personally hope bungie doesn't get their creativity dumbed down because of a book, if the books story needs to be thrown out so bungie can make this game as fun as possible then i'm all for it. i highly doubt bungie will even focus on the books story, i think it'll focus on a different group of characters judging by the sierra 320 (it was 320?) call sign used in the trailer.

about the flood: The Spartans were trapped inside the castle facility and the covenant had scarabs trying to dig them up. get this in your head FLOOD CAN NOT WORK WHATSOEVER.

Thus

New Cannon overwrites Old Cannon

They shouldn't let the books hold them back on what may be the greatest Halo game. They can't have the greatest Halo game without one of the major enemies.

uhhh yes they can the flood would be terrible in reach it makes my head want to explode (no pun intended) that some one wants bungie to break their cannon so the crappy flood can be in the game flood dont need to be in every game

the most epic cut scene in halo but "captain wake up...some thing has happened" doesnt mean that they sent the message to ONI and even if they did send a message then why would all the unsc or ONI be -blam!- surprised to see the flood if they discovered it 20 years before halo

A lot of people seem to be assuming that if the crew of the Spirit of Fire made it back to UNSC space (which it did in all likelihood) then they're going to be like: "OMG ONI we saw dis parasit stuff and it was like really scary and -blam!-, TELL EVERYONE!"

Really they wouldn't think that there was any cause for concern, they did blow it all up after all.

I still don't think that there should be Flood in Halo Reach campaign, because even if the Spirit did bring back Flood specimens would ONI really store an ultra-dangerous zombiefying parasitic superorganism on Reach? That's the second most populous planet in the entire UNSC. They'd take it to some top secret remote research facility like Onyx.

yeah, the Spirit of Fire minus that useless Sgt. Forge. It would be amazing to have the Spirit appear and start killing everything (yes I do love Halo Wars, and if you disagree, then I will cut you)

So we can expect Halo Reach to maybe twist some things as far as how everything happened, such as adding new weapons, vehicles, and even enemies.

This is the last Bungie made Halo game, so I hope they go out with a bang. Possibly adding brutes on Reach, and even Flood would make the game interesting.

I know many people dislike the Flood, but they are a part of Halo. The things Bungie needs to do is make the Flood levels seem more "zombie apocolyptic". The "Quarantine" level on Halo 3 was the closest to this.

New weapons, vehicles, and enemies would be nice as well. Bungie would just need to make everything make sense.

For example, there is a new weapon on Reach being field tested during the battle. This weapon was only used or Reach because its design/blueprints were lost when the planet was glassed.

What do you guys think? Feel free to add any ideas, and make sure to describe them nicely. It can be anything from plot changes, new weapons, vehicles, enemies, ect.
you realise that the brutes started the human covanant war by attacking harvest right? they were there before elites

*facepalm* Elites were the first to join the covenant.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Brutes failed their mission on Harvest. Theywere used primarely for security purposes untill the events of Halo 2. But the Prophet of Truth would use them for his own secret agendas from time to time.

Brutes though were not encountered by the Spartans on Reach as there were no mention of them being present on Reach as a Combat Force in First Strike.

Bungie needs to quit retconning and actually focus on writing a story thats consistent with the present cannon.

That's naught but fanon.

Yeah First Strike. I am highly of the opinion that the Halo franchise hasn't settled into its "correct" form until Ghosts of Onyx was published. Everything published prior is of course still canonical except for a few pesky details.

Bungie needs to quit retconning and actually focus on writing a story thats consistent with the present cannon.

This whole Brute issue would be the third retcon for the entire Halo Franchise. First being Elites in The Cole Protocol, Second being Hunters in Halo Wars. Besides the Brute retcon was started in Ghosts of Onyx anyway, by having Brutes on Earth during the First Battle of Earth.

It looks like The Babysitter will bring the retcon count up to a grand total of four by solidifying what Halo 2 sort of did almost retconning away the "we've never seen Prophets before" detail of Fall of Reach.

And the -Blam!- word is CANON!

Dont know havent read any of the books yet but could it be that the chief didnt know about the flood because in my eyes it seems like when he isnt in action he's in cryo sleep to stop his aging so he can fight longer in the war. And there were stuff even in odst buck and his squad didnt know. Like that engineer that joined the humans and dare had to secure him.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

Adding Brutes, new weapons, or Flood to Halo: REACH would not go against the old canon, provided we aren't playing through the POV of Fred. There were 23 Spartans who fought on the surface of Reach, 14 of them without so much as a name or number. I think we're going to get some new story in Halo: REACH through the eyes of Team Beta.

*Neuvostoliiton hajoaminen oli vain showta
*Saksa on löytänyt uuden tavan vallata Eurooppa ilman yhtäkään panssarivaunua

People might assume that we're not fighting Brutes or the Flood in Reach because they weren't directly mentioned by names in First Strike. The Spartans were first encountered by the Brutes at Unyielding Hierophant and the Flood on Alpha Halo according to the books.

But that doesn't mean there weren't any Spartan groups on Reach that were fighting the Brutes and the Flood without Fred knowing anything about them.

Similar about Red Team in Halo Wars where they were encountering the Flood first time and it didn't go against the canon because the SoF were the only eyewitnesses of them and the crew went MIA and therefore nobody knew about them.

Fred is in command of all ground operations involving Spartans, not just Red Team. I read that part of the book last night and I would check again if I weren't at school.

I recently found a little message hinting that we may be seeing what happened to Dr. Hasley.

I do not have a picture at the moment, but on the Firefight level "Alpha Site" there is text commending UNSC personnel on the battle of Reach. It is located near the where the rocket launcher spawns.

The text talks about Dr. Hasley, and final sentence says something like "She was never found after the battle and is presumed KIA" or something.

I'll try to get a screen-shot of it but in the meantime you would have to see for yourself.

To the Flood discussion:

The reason I posted that video is because some people think that the Spirit of Fire never made it back to the UNSC to tell about the Flood. This is not true because that last part of the video proves that it is not the end, and there may be a sequel made by 343 Industries.

This part is my opinion of what could have happened:

Spirit of Fire makes it back to the UNSC. The information is then sent to ONI for research. The reason anyone that is not in ONI is because they either receive the message late, or because they don't want the troops to lose morale.

I mean, if your a Marine and your already fighting some pretty tough aliens, then how are you going to feel when you hear that there are parasite lifeforms that take over the host and make you pretty much a zombie.

And you might say, "Why wouldn't they tell them they're going to be fighting them". Well I think that they might have not told them because they don't think that it will be a threat now, and have speculated that the species has been contained for now.

That was just my thoughts on why they didn't release any informaton.

Also, remember Veronica didn't tell Buck why there were so many dead Elites? She said it was classified, so if ONI is going to hide a little thing like that, then they most likely will not share information about the Flood.

Agreed, but then why was Halsey so willing to enter a Forerunner structure on Onyx? She was extremely high up in ONI and she didn't ever mention anything about the possibility of Flood being in the structure (something that should have been talked about since of a possible outbreak they could cause).

Here are a few of my reasons:

1) She is a scientist. Finding new information is her life. I think that a lot of passionate scientists would risk their life in order to find new information.

2) The author could have not mentioned it or didn't think that there would be Flood.

3) I'm not sure, but was she alone in the Forerunner structure? I mean, if she was with a bunch of Spartans than she would most likely feel safe, because they are her creations. I mean, if there were 3 Spartans guarding me, I wouldn't care what enemies I see.

Again those are my opinions on why. Feel free to share any agreements/disagreements/opinions.

Because she isn't in ONI. She's a civilian with a high security clearance due to her work on the Spartan program. ONI was supper secretive about any information they got. I bet they would and did withhold information that would save lives, but that's just a gut feeling.

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

It's spelled "Canon."
And I doubt Bungie would create a paradox in such a massively successful and profitable universe. Granted, it's their last Halo game, (at least for a while) and if Bungie hypothetically wanted to be -blam!-s and get back at Microsoft for milking the series, there's nothing really stopping them. But like I said, I just doubt Bungie would do that.

Halo Wars was a great game. I would enjoy sequel very much. A few nice things they could add is a cover system, to make players feel like they're controlling a squad.

It would also be nice if they didn't focus on spamming units. Make units in Halo Wars all valuable by raising the cost of them and adding a "Fall back" button that makes the squad return to base.

Dawn of War 2 is a great strategy game that makes players feel like every unit is important. If there is a Halo Wars sequel, then they should make it more squad and fighting focused, and not army spamming and large scale battles.

Halo Wars also lacked 3 vs 3 maps and different game types. I know there's DLC but come on, why should I spend 8 bucks on what should have been their from the start.

She had conversation with ONI heads regularly. She had several Smart AI's working with her as well. She wasn't just a plain scientist.
