We won't play as master chief or any of the spartans with names in the books.

We will be playing as five unnamed spartans that fought on the surface of Reach and probably died.

I've never read the books but one thing i've seen repeated over and over is this;

The Cheif is in an orbital station with another spartan and they destroy it after that they retreat to the PoA and make a blind jump while Cheif goes into cryo-sleep (enter Halo CE).

Logic. We know for sure that we will be playing as a spartan in a squad of five, this has been confirmed.

As for the rest, its much easier to create an original story that doesn't destroy the existing canon set up by the book if you play as a group of unknowns who's ultimate fates were never explore than if you play as Master Chief and friends.

Besides, chief didn't do much on Reach. Killed a nav core. Thats about it.

The chief wasn't there when it was glassed. What's nice to see?
