Subject: Mini-Campaign levels (Fun little idea....)

AI in multiplayer is one of the main things halo fans have always wanted; clumped with object locking in forge and just overall better AI...

There should be...

Campaign

Multiplayer, player vs player levels

Then Mini-Campaign levels.

These Mini-Campaign levels would be somewhat like firefight, but not really. It is completely unrelated to the story, you join the level alone or with some friends (up to 4).

For exmaple, maybe it could use a previous level model or even multiplayer level model, but with a single scarab in it.

The goal is to destroy the scarab, once you've destroyed the scarab, the level ends and you get a time it took you to complete the level.
There maybe be a selection of vehicles or even goals to complete before you destroy the scarab.

Another example is maybe "Kill as man ghosts as you can in 10:00 minutes! Don't die!"

And have a level where there are infinitely spawning ghosts (with maybe 10 max at a time or so...)

Have a certain number of these mini-campaign modes that are separate from the real campaign.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I think this would be very fun.

It's like a minigame. I actually think those are fun. It allows for a lot of different types of skills to be focused on. I loved playing these minigames in Madden. I think they could do this very easily by (like you said) using existing levels they use for campaign/multiplayer/firefight. Also, things like the ghost one wouldn't be all that hard to do. All they have to do is put a few spawn points on a blank map, add some barriers and some weapons, and viola.

I think this would be a GREAT way to diversify the types of games you can play. It would be a lot like firefight as it is, but with options to change it up even more.

Sounds fun :P

I had a small campaign mission in thoughts a little while back... should be around here somewhere... (I'm too lazy to re-type it)

I don't see why they haven't already done this...

It seems like halo games have been rushed after Halo 2

You say goodbye, and I say good riddance.

I agree with everything you and the OP said. BUT, I think it would be cool if you could also customize the mini campaigns abit. So instead of picking from a select few ( dozens? ) You could create your own, upload them to b.net, and share them with the rest of the world! :D

Since forge will no doubt be getting an upgrade, this feature could go hand in hand.

What?
they made a new campaign, uppdated matchmaking, Forge and theatre for Halo 3, how can you call that rushed?

oh and ODST was a smaller game...

I agree. With the forge that we have now plus a few added options, I don't foresee it as being all that difficult to add in. All the components are there, it's just a matter of unlocking them for us to use.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Grunt Rebellion

You say goodbye, and I say good riddance.

Instead of giving this amazing idea even more praise, i'll give some senario suggestions instead!

- Kill as many enemies as possible within a certain time, by second hand grunt sticks.

- Move an objective item, such as an oddball, to as many points as possible before dieing/time runs out, with a crazy ammount of covies' between you and the next spot.

- Nade jump through hoops

- Kill as many chieftens as possible by assasination. One regular kill, and its game over.

- Board as many vehicles as possible

And any combination of of them. Like setting up a certain sequence of tasks that must be completed. ( I.E assasinate 5 cheiftens, stick twelve grunts, nade jump through two hoops, board a wraith, and finish by taking down a scarab ) Marathons FTW!

I REALLY like the grenade jumping one. The oddball one would be very fun too. The assassination I disagree with, as it's too easy for the game to count them as regular kills if you melee just right. It shouldn't end the game with a regular kill.

-They could do a KOTH type thing where only kills from inside the hill count, and the hill moves non-randomly. You get as many kills as possible until you die.

-Cage match with hunters. You get no weapons or grenades in a boxed off area (like an empty giffball court). You start off with two hunters, but each minute two more come. You can get them to kill each other, but there's not much you can do otherwise.

-Shooting gallery. You have just enough sniper bullets and reloads to kill all the enemies with headshots. Body damage way up so body shots don't do much and melee wouldn't really help.

Obviously, turning on skulls would also add to this.

Instead of a hill that "jumps" between different spawn points, it could move slowly across the map on an invisiable rail.

I like the idea of kills inside the hill being the only ones that count. Perhaps your shields could also drain, or even just pop altogether when you exit.

One could get clever with this idea.

Such as, have weapon and ammo drops spawn outside of the hill, putting a strong emphesis on teawork, as you alternate between making ammo runs, as covering those who do.

This would create tension, as well as situations where players would have to make judgment calls.

"Do I risk making a mad dash for that splazer?"

"Is that sniper rifle worth dieing for?"

Could be fun. I dunno. :/

PS. Perhaps an elephant could come into play here. As in, one player drives within the moving hill, while the others try to keep it alive between "chechpoints," or something. Alternating, of course, so as the driver also gets some killz. xD
