Im thinking the cause of lag is due to so many people sharing the connection?

You might be right. It could be that the bandwidth is too high.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Considering how little time was spent on Halo 2 Vista, and the fact it uses Live, it's probably exactly the same network code. You're not liable to get any better connection than on Xbox.

their netcode is the same, and fails because of it.

You have to lead your shots in Halo PC. Rockets not so much, but still. Also did you get your internet from Wal-Mart?

There is a lot more lag in Xbox games because they use p2p hosting, so the person with a better average connection to the server gets host, even if their connection is worse than the other players. PC games, generally use dedicated servers, meaning every player connects to a host with a high-bandwidth connection, however it still depends on the client side connection. Having a dedicated server just means more bandwidth can be spread around so that the lag is reduced, whereas for p2p a group of players are limited to a certain amount of data that is transferred from the host so some players will appear to be 'lagging', while others get a host advantage, which is a huge disadvantage to other players.

It's LAG, not LAGG.

Thats complete BS. 99% of games on Xbox live run P2P and half the time the host has a terrible connection. The only time I ever lag in a PC game is on a Euro server or if Telus is throttling my internet or I'm downloading something

P2P connections suck balls, and that is what the Halo 3/ most 360 games use. As I said PC games use dedicated servers which are much more efficient and lag less overall.

Afaik, the netcode on H2 doesn't require you to aim to the left or right of where they are moving. This was implemented to get rid of what people called 'Host Advantage'. Host Advantage still applied in melee/beatdowns however.

Example:
Host gets shot in the head by client on the clients screen. The host's screen shows it missed, but is still killed by the shot and vice-versa. Melee however would rely more on one's ping, if you both lunged at each other at the same time the one with a lower ping would obviously kill the higher ping guy.

Halo 1/CE is different however, if you've played multiplayer on it before you'd know that it requires your crosshair to be slightly moved towards the target's direction in order to hit - basically the packet that is sent to the host is not sent in 'real time' and shows a lag and therefore doesn' hit. In H2, this 'packet' is sent with what you could call a Timestamp e.g. I shot this bullet 230ms ago and it took 230ms to get to host, therefore it tries to emulate realtime. Which is good I suppose.

Depends on your version of good :D I suppose it means you have to lead you shots, but in a laggy game, that becomes a pain. On the other hand, hitscan is just -blam!- :( I'm glad they took it out of Halo 3.
