Subject: What would make territories fun again?

I noticed that territories has seen a massive decline in popularity since Halo 2. I loved nothing more than playing territories on Turf, but in Halo 3 it's impossible to find a game of territories. I blame myself though. I asked for the ability to play Territories in rounds like on Team Fortress, and Bungie made it their main gameplay focus without keeping a fast paced Halo 2 gameplay variant available 50/50 in matchmaking. We can make some fun Halo 2 versions in custom games though.

So what changes would make Territories more popular in Halo Reach?

it doese'nt look nextgen , looks good but not nextgen
If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

Nothing?

Actually i liked how it was in the Halo 3 Beta. For some reason they changed it a bit on the final release and i now hate it.

I also liked it in the Beta. It's just so awkward and slow now. Can't even remember the differences now, despite a few territory changes on Vahalla.

Was there a difference between Beta Territories and the final game's Territories? I thought it was completely unchanged other than slight position adjustments.

I will tell you the exact reason why...

For those of you that didn't play a lot of Halo 2 and Halo 3.

Halo 3 was lacking one major option for territories variants. To my understanding In Halo 3 territories in EVERY possible variant, you don't capture territories and gain time for having them captured...but you just gain 1 point for capturing it and that's it...

I think it was a huge mistake to make defenders and attackers for territories. When one team just tries to hold off the other team from capturing it for a few minutes.

Again, for those who didn't play halo 2 online, territories on Halo 2 was much like "annex" of Gears of War 2 (except it didn't move, and there was multiple territories more often then not.), and that is a very popular playlist to most of those who play gears of war, in fact I think it it is the most favored playlist.

Also not to Hi-jack this forum but since we are on this subject, Why did Bungie not implement Neutral Flag into Halo 3... The only options are Multi-flag and 1-flag. I loved playing Flag wars on Coagulation and Waterworks...good times..

I think the capture time was different and it ended quicker. I really can't remember. Maybe it just felt funner because the BR was still a sniper.

I think it was because Neutral Flag was basically Neutral Assault with an instant timer so they removed it, but forgot to give us a fast neutral assault alternative in matchmaking.

bringing the objective to your base is different than taking in to the opponent's base...I see what you mean though

I still want the option though. I miss Neutral Assault and 5 Ball Oddball from Halo 1.

I also kinda miss the old contested flag rule...where it is always stuck at 5 secs when it is contested. ( a player is near it)

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Halo 2 Territories:
Each Territory gives you time, like a Hill in KOTH. If you control multiple Territories, you get cumulative seconds.

Territories do not lock, so it is a constant mix of map control to see who can maintain the majority.

Similar to Damage Control in Red Faction Guerilla.

Flag Rally:
1 Point per capture
territories do not lock

1st team to 5 wins?

SO yeah, Bungie if you are reading this take note to bring back halo 2 territories. kkthx

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

Well a normal match:
Attackers capture the easiest territories without resistance. Defenders focus on the closest ones.
Neutral is the same. Only 1 or 2 territories matter.

Second timer/Re-conquerable territories is exactly what's needed. Then people who spawn in Last Resorts base could take over the Territory at the beach. Every match would be different and constant battle and strategy.

Star Wars Battlefront lives even today and it's all about that.

A love for games and a love for writing.

German Shepherd Dog

I LOVED Halo 2 Territories on Turf. I would defend the medic tent by using those barriers to make a wall to protect against enemy fire.

I would love for territories to return to its Halo 2 state. It was fast paced and fun. <=== That is the definition of Halo.

I would like to invite you to the most active group there is, Black Water Ops. Boasting over 4000 members this is one of the fastest growing groups and proven to be one of the most active b.net groups. An amazing experience awaits you with weekly game nights, photo contests, and forging contests. This is one decision you won't regret. Welcome to the family!

I think that Territories could be changed to flags you have to capture, not just positions on the map. Capturing territories was fun, but unless you had a really good team, you couldn't get all of the places.

Capturing flags would be like making runs while keeping the other team from killing you, like having 2 people run around getting the flags, and everyone else going after the enemy players and controlling the flag positions.

Just a few thoughts.
