Subject: Campaign Ideas **spoilers** multiple perspectives

if you have any questions about halo i am one of the few people on this site who will gladly help you. Even though this account has been active for only a year, my past accounts go all the way back to 2002.

so I've had some ideas brewing, but haven't wrote them down yet.

**please note there may be story spoilers ahead if you have yet to read the book**

I think to help improve the replay value of the campaign it should be different when viewed from different perspectives
example:

Everybody remembers when the spartans first get on a covenant ship and Sam is shot by a jackal and cannot escape through space because his suit cannot sustain in a vacuum. Well imagine this mission in four player coop. Every player is a different character, not some random clone or elite. At some point inside the carrier you come up to a door and enter a first person cutscene, which is slightly different angles depending on which character you are. The character who is sam goes through first and gets shot by an overcharged plasma pistol. Master chief's character drops the blow on the jackal and they all realize Sam now cannot escape the ship with his ruined armor. End of cutscene. you keep playing the level but Sam's character now has no shields and everybody has to work together to keep him alive. At some point you plant the bomb (not in cutscene) and here the characters say they are leaving and sam says he will stay and make sure the bomb goes off, sacrificing himself. At this point everybody but sam heads to the vehicle bay to escape while Sam fights off enemies from the bomb. The characters going to the vehicle bay plant explosives on the wall and get pulled through the whole they create upon exploding. the vehicles in the bay also get pulled towards the whole along with debris and dead covies. Once outside the ship the three characters float back away from the ship and watch it explode, for Sam's character the screen goes white then fades to black. It stays black while the other three characters get picked up by the human ship and when they meet up with the other spartans inside the ship Sam's screen comes back, but he is now playing as a different character.

i think this would give coop a more story driven feel, while increasing replay value because the game would be different depending on what character you are.

you probably didn't read all that, but i just wanted to write it down. if you did read it, COMMENT!

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

I would like a system similar to that in ODST. Every mission is interconnected and related to one another but not necessarily right after one another. It could work and seeing as how there are 5 SPARTANs in the banner it very well could be this way.

i actually disagree, i think the story should follow the book since it was so good. to do that the events would have to play out in a particular order. ODST only worked because they were flashbacks and I dont want reach to be a flashback based game. (even though it was great in ODST)

it doese'nt look nextgen , looks good but not nextgen
If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

It would be rather foolish for them to include in the game something which you fully read about it in the books. Those are my two cents about the whole Sam/Kelly/Fred/John/Linda thing.

In the Halo games you always get a character that doesn't have a face, so that you can imagine yourself as him. Making the game exactly like one of the books, leaves nothing to the imagination because you already know what will happen. The books have always had the role of giving you background information and filling up the gaps in between the games. The books also leave wide open spaces of white which Bungie later said they would fill up (with another novel, game or movie) to tie the whole thing together. (I believe Frankie said this, not in the words i used if not i would be directly quoting him)

When it comes to Reach, we already know what happened to a handful of Spartans. We don't have a clue what happened to 15+ Spartans who are still unnamed and don't have a number.

Didn't you follow various SPARTANs around in the book? I could have sworn you did. Anyways if it is a flashback based game then I'm sure Bungie will find some way to make this work.

I'm a dinosaur and stuff...

Also, another problem with this; At the time of Sam's death none of their Mark IV MJOLNIR armor had shields. Shield came in the Mark V

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I want an ODST like system, used across 2 campaigns:
UNSC: Spartan
Covenant: Elite

With several unlockable missions as rewards for completing the game
UNSC:
ODST
Marine

Covenant:
Brute
Grunt
Hunter
