Would you want to be able to make a custom control scheme where you assign an action to each button? Like being able to make B reload, or X to jump instead of why. You would be able to make your own custom controls to your liking.

Awesome isn’t just a word. Awesome is a way of life. Awesome is a way of war. Teamwork matters the most. Lone Wolves jeopardize the missions. Teamwork is key. Resistance is futile. I love the entire Halo series, Halo 2 being my favorite of the games. I think that the universe is compelling and the story is deep, sweeping, and powerful. The hidden layers in the Halo trilogy and rich details of the backstory in the novels are something I love to be lost in, and im greatly looking forward to the story that Halo: Reach will weave. Bungie has carefully and lovingly crafted a mythic tale that will stay etched in my mind until the end.

I think Bungie's reasoning for not doing this before is that it would give players too much of an advantage over lesser skilled players. For example, a new player who has just become accustomed to the default set up will have a hard time playing against an opponent who has set their controller scheme up for maximum mobility and fluidity while minimizing effort and difficulty when playing the game. A new player would not have the advantage of knowing how to perfectly set up their controller like that, and wouldnt for a while.

Also, since their is only about 5-6 different button layouts to choose from currently, it kinda keeps everyone on a somewhat comparable playing field if everyone is forced to use the same few layouts.

Your saying that new players who play on default will have a hard time beating players who are used to a different scheme?

Buttons are buttons, if one player is better then a new player its because the new player is new. Buttons have nothing to do with skill really, they should be able to be customized just to be fit to the user's liking and how he wants to play, not how good he wants to play.

Yea, I don't see why not. But I just want my green thumb.

You could however argue that the best Bumper Jumper player has an advantage over the best Default button player. Bumper Jumper allows the player to jump, aim, fire, and melee all at once, while the Default set up forces the player to take fingers off of certain buttons to perform different actions, which can severly limit speed and control in the heat of a fight.

Of course it just depends on the person, but technically, a person with a better set up has the advantage until proven otherwise. Bungie is famous for catering to lower skilled crowds(large emphasis on AR starts, beatdowns are more effective, cannot fire weapons as fast as finger can pull trigger, etc) which is all well and good, but it further backs my reasoning as to why the might have limited controller schemes on purpose.

Thats not completely true, infact I know a lot of good players who play on default and I know a lot of bad bumper jumper players who are better on default. Also, I think MLG players have to play on default, but I'm not sure.

What I'm trying to say is, the same can be said about the pre-made control schemes, you could say they are unbalanced, and maybe they are, just a little bit, but in the grand scheme of things that doesn't really matter, even if they may help good players do better. I personally think its completely fair and that a custom control scheme wouldn't make any noticeable differences in how good someone is, but rather, how much more conveniant it is for them to do what they do.

This will only work if while my brother is off using the bathroom I can change his control settings mid game so that every button and trigger throws a grenade.

You do understand this, right?

I'm pretty sure if Bungie adds this feature you will only be able to assign 1 action to 1 button. So like grenades are 1 thing, melee is one thing, so on.

I just explained how wrong that is. Buttons are all the same and do all the same stuff, making it customizable just changes up what buttons do what.

...But how will I screw over my brother when he's away besides switching to legacy south paw, turning his sensitivity to one, inverting his y axis, turning off his rumble, and turning off toggle to crouch?

That sounds pretty screwed up already...
