Bungie should rethink the melee. My idea is to make it a more human style by lowering the damage rating at a farther range. Close melees will have 100% effectiveness, but a farther "lunge" will do about 50 or 75 %, that's up to Bungie. Post your comments or ideas.

"Spartans don't die. We're just missing in action."

They are Spartans. They are meant to be unrealistically strong.

This is just a thought, but if a spartan decides to hit another spartan with the stock of his BR you would think the Fail point would be the little plastic BR instead of the half ton space marine

so shouldn't all melee's be like the plasma pistol

with an acceptation to Covi weapons, I'm assuming there made out of some crazy future space metal

if any thing i would like to see melees have a knock back and stun back mechanic. this would be very fun on a map like Sandbox in the Sky. batting people of the edge

and seeking of Melees- what about the katana as a forge weapon
it would have the same effects of the Energy sword

Yes- it's not realistic but 7 wood nuf said

That makes 0 sense. If you lunge you you would be traveling faster and hitting harder, think about football players the hard hits when they are running full out and soft when they are close. However they are spartans in super armor and can easily flip a warthog. So a hit from one of them would shatter bones easily. I do not think the beatdown is over powered. It just needs some tweaking like with the sword and sometimes passing through the other player.

I've personally always thought the melee was indeed overpowered. I mean yeah the Spartans are extremely strong, don't you think that should mean they're also extremely resilient? After all part of their augmentations included their bones were made virtually unbreakable, so contrary to the previous poster, they really shouldn't be able to "shatter" each others bones easily.

All I'm sayin is, if a Spartan decked a ODST as hard as he could while fully armored, yeah there wouldn't be much left of that ODST. But another Spartan, with his own armor, shields, augmentation and combat training, should be able to at least take a few of those hits and still have a chance.

It should take three Melees to kill, and there should also be less auto aim and melee lunge.

I was talking about campaign. However you are right it would be about the damage one human does to another in MM. As for playing purposes do you want to sit there hitting someone 5 times to kill him? For reality it is not good but if we are talking more real why are the spartans fighting each other?

I wouldn't mind if they didn't lunge at all.

I'm stubborn as long as I'm not wrong. Prove me wrong and you'll get an apology.

I vote Halo: Combat Evolved style Melees...

Bungie shouldn't put so much emphasis on the melee, it definitely shouldn't do as much damage as it does now, I'd say 3 melee's to kill, instead of 2, would be a good start.

Wherever you roam
so far from home
you'll be safe from peril
life threatening and terrible
if you avoid David Powel
and keep track of your towel.

Anyone who's going to discuss this on a theoretical realistic basis should shut up right now.

It's a game. If your discussing the melee systems merits and faults as a gameplay mechanic please continue.
