Subject: The BR doesn't need to be removed

Posted by: Duardo
I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

I've been seeing alot of complaints about the BR for awhile. Everyone is saying as if it were a fact that the BR ruined weapon balance in Halo 2 and Halo 3 which is not true.

The thing that destroyed weapon balance in Halo 2 and Halo 3 was Dual Weilding. By adding Dual Weilding various weapons were nerfed (Plasma Pistol. Magnum, Plasma Rifle, Halo 2 Needler, etc.), but as ODST proved removing Dual Weilding can make things better.

If Dual Weilding was not in Halo 2 and Halo 3 chances are that the BR wouldn't be the "go to" weapon that it currently is (or not as much so) since various weapons would have a decent amount of fire power and accuracy instead of being useless for everything but close range combat.

The Halo 3 Needler and the Sound supressed SMG is proof enough of that.

I will also add that Grenades would be more effective like they were in Halo 1, the Shotgun could have a bit more range, and the Rocket Luancher would finnaly do a decent amount of splash damage like in Halo 1.

My point is, for the betterment of this game, Dual Weilding should not be in this game.

i dont know i never liked the BR and a lot of people i know also hated it i don't think that it ruined the game i just think that it does not need to be incuded in reach if the pistol can do the same job a little bit better

1- I agree the BR should stay, but it should also be funner to use and have a different role. it sounds like an air soft gun in Halo 3. and i would also like it to be Semi auto. so its not another assault rifle. the definition of a battle rifle is a gas operated riffle that fire a full sized rifle rounds like the 30-06, ot the 7.62x51 which ironically the AR shoots

2- i agree whit you about Duels. i have realized even in campaign game play runs smoother, and all the weapons have a point

3- I think the AR should be the mid range jack o all trads weapon. make like the AR in RFG where you have a slight zoom, becomes more accurate, and gets a smaller reticule. also make sound like the MA5B. i miss that wonderful noise

I agree, although I thought that the splash damage on Grenades was a bit excessive on Halo 1 - but the blast radius should be bigger than what it is in Halo 3.

Dual Wielding was a cool idea, but it just results in "half weapons" that are only useful if dual wielded. Like you said, the Silenced SMG and the Needler prove that removing dual wielding allows a weapon to be much better on its own.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Yeah, your wrong about that bud. The truth is they only compensate for Dual Wield WHILE YOU ARE DOING IT. Weapons are powerful enough to be guns on their own without it. (Want proof? When you use a single magnum it is 5 shot kill, dual wielding it becomes 7 shot.)

An SMG, Spiker, and PR single wield are all more effective than an AR. Just letting you know.

As far as the canon is concerned, dual wielding shouldn't be there anyway - the Mark 5 armour could only "track" one weapon at a time, although I suppose Bungie would just ret-con this.

Punch a bear in the face.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

I think the BR problem lies less with weapons like the SMG and the Spiker and more with the BR itself.

In multiplayer, the BR is the most powerful weapon by far. It's perfect for mid-range combat, pretty good at long-range if you're good with it, and good at close-range. On some maps, not having a BR is instant death (Default Sandbox, Valhalla, Avalanche, etc). It's pretty much the result of the assault rifle having a baby with the gauss cannon.

It'd be better in my opinion if it fired slower or something, just so it'd be a poor choice close-up, but still useable. Most duals are fine and maybe the plasma rifle and needler could be two-handed weapons, but they aren't affecting the BR at all as it's already too powerful.

So your saying bungie ignored the canon? Even though it's their story?

What about the Carbine? Which is arguably better than the BR is?

BR should stay, but there shouldn't be more than 4 to 6 on any map, and the respawn times should be between 30-60 seconds.

Dual wielding should be removed (does anyone even use it?), and all dual-wield weapons should get improved firepower and accuracy.

The default starting weapon should be a UNSC Carbine (essentially a 6-shot, semi automatic BR).

Hey, look at that. I just balanced the weapons.

Canon - The works of a writer that have been accepted as authentic

When we say canon we mean it's a definitive part of the story.

Bungie ignore canon all of the time. Lets look at ODST:

1- Where did all of the Battle Rifles go? They were all over the place in New Mombassa in HAlo 2, but suddenly as soon as your ODSTs drop, they've all magically disappeared?

2- No fightable Elites in ODST. Again, immediately after you drop (See: The first Flashback mission) every single Elite is dead. Seriously? Not one Elite left fighting a Brute by himself? No. As soon as Regret jumps, every single Elite dies. Don't buy it.

3- (Spoilers here) Virgil obviously tells Sergeant Johnson what The Covenant are looking for under New Mombasa. At the beginning of Halo 3, nobody has a clue what The Covenant are digging up. Not even Lord Hood.

I hope that the main weapons in Halo Reach are the Halo 1 AR, Halo 2 BR, a little bit more damaging version of the ODST pistol, and the ODST SMG.

1: You are in different parts of the city in ODST than you were in Halo 2.

2: The Slipspace Jump killed off most the Covenant troops in the city, the very few left standing were wiped out by the immediately landing Brutes.

3: Vergil can't speak english. All he did was agree to help, WHAT he knows, and what he could communicate are two very different things.

1- The Battle Rifle is a standard-issue weapon. Why give Marines in different parts of the city a different gun? And BRs were in that part of the city - look at the police officer at the end of NMPD HQ.

2- It killed off most of the Covenant Troops in the city... with energy shields, while Marines survived. Right... okay then.

3- Virgil still has some kind of connection to the Covenant battlenet - and ONI obviously know something about Engineers and probably could have worked out some translation of some sort. Besides, Virgil wasn't even referenced in Halo 3.
