We just need to instigate more elitism and Mythic shenanigans.

We know that Reach will have multiplayer, and I know that I want there to be at least as many options for custom multiplayer as there are in Halo 3.

What I really want is for Bungie to think ahead when creating forge mode. Originally, for Halo 3, it was just a weapon and objective placement editor, which was nice, but people still did more with it. Then they added foundry, and immovable objects, allowing us to actually create entirely new maps, but we were still limited by the space, we didn't have a regularly shaped box, it took half the budget to block the back off if it was needed. At first we couldn't geomerge either, but eventually people figured out how to do it, and we were able to make much higher quality maps, but we still had to worry about budget and item limits. Then they made sandbox, supposedly the ultimate forge map, but it still doesn't have enough space for the larger maps, and the crypt still has oddly shaped walls. There isn't enough budget for a large sky bubble map, and the way it approximates item locations when it saves makes it hard to keep floors smooth. Also, the default objects are glitchy when you interlock them. The OLN also limits out ability to forge exactly what we want. If they had just made the default sandbox completely empty, we could have the full OLN to work with, rather than having to keep the default items. If they had made one more item, a floor tile, the height of a wall's width, and 4 grid squares by 4, we could make much larger, better sky bubble maps.

Every step has been an improvement, but I think Bungie can do better if they just think ahead, and also consult with the people that use forge. Go to forge cafe, and forge union, and Atlas, and find out from the members what they would like.

I don't care about the golf ball and the tin cup. I don't like having 40 huge wedges, but only 20 large wedges, I would rather have the unique shapes that can be used to make the large shape. I want building blocks, not fins and obelisks. I don't care about the little aesthetic details like the little lightbullbs in the crypt, I would rather have a space that actually works for making maps. I want it to be an exact number of grid squares, and I want all of the objects to be based on the size of one of those squares. I basic objects like triangles of different shapes, and boxes of different dimensions. I want a better variety of lights. I want to be able to select whether or not an object is moveable, and I want to be able to easily merge it with map geometry, other items, and float it. I can use glitches and other techniques to do this, but it would be a lot better if I could just hold down a button and move it through the wall, then let it go. I would also like an undo feature, and the ability to pin an object in place but change its orientation, and the option to freeze its orientation but move its location.

None of these things are unreasonable, and most of them would make it possible to make much much better maps, which would keep us playing, and give the option of using some of those maps in matchmaking, creating a much better experience overall.

Also, even if they do create one ultimate forge map, and it has very few problems, we should still be able to forge other maps. I have had ideas to make a different version of the pit, heretic, standoff, and many others, but everything outside of foundry, sandbox, and avalanche is practically unforgeable, with a few minor exceptions.

A better forge mode benefits everyone, and there is no good reason to neglect one of the major reasons for Halo 3's longevity in the new game.

I stopped at "weapon editor" because it's wrong. not saying the rest is though.
you probably meant "map editor' .... because a weapon editor would allow you to modify the weapon (damage, firing rate, etc).

why would a weapons editor not work

i would love a weapons editor
weapon settings

-fire rate/fire selection semi auto, three round burst, auto
-Mag size
-shield damage
-armor damage
-Damage fall off
-Head shot on/off
-zoom
-recoil
-Accuracy
-reticule

Accuracy setting would be a little complex for automatic fire maybe it could fall unde three settings

-Accuracy of weapon fired in burst
-Accuracy of weapon fired Auto
-Rate of accuracy fall off

I didn't say it would not work. i just told to the OP that forge is a MAP EDITOR, not a weapon editor.

"Ordinarily I would tell you to stand back if you don't want to be injured. But in this case, I'll make an exception. I'm going to beat down every last one of you!" -Kenshin Himura

Pretty much every time they have a community spotlight interview they ask how to make forge better. And I believe they will be implementing everything plausible that they hear.

Bungie is great at admitting there is room for improvement and that's why I love them. I imagine a lot of these suggestions, if not all, will make it into Reach, and I can't wait to use them.

read the whole thing, he means altering weapon placement not the weapons themselves.

why not make the forge both?

Yeah, weapon editor wasn't quite accurate, what I actually meant was weapon placement editor.

Bungie does do a pretty decent job of doing what the community wants, but forge has so much potential that can be limited very easily, if they think ahead and avoid limiting it, we could end up with something absolutely awesome.

Do you really doubt for one second that they havent explored every problem with the current forge and are working on making it better?

Forge is successful for the same reason matchmaking is successful. You get something different every time you play it. You can literally create something new and inventive every time you step into forge that could eventually make matchmaking.

Trust me, Bungie sees the potential with the creation of Forge. As you mentioned, Forge has already come a long way with only a couple of updates. They arent going to just forget about Forge and leave it out with their last Halo game. It will undoubtedly be a complete map editor allowing for maximal map making potential giving everyone what theyve asked for thus far. Why not? We keep making maps that makes their game more fun.

Seems like a win/win to me.
