Halo 3's Forge is one of Bungie's most brilliant ideas, allowing users to create maps for the community. There was always a need to create good competitive maps for MLG, and Forge has answered to that need by creating Amplified, Onslaught, Lockdown, and many others.
However, this on-going debacle of "which weapon should be in Halo:Reach" has got me thinking. Many people have been arguing weather Bungie should implement a magnum or a battle rifle into the game, or if they should fix the BR spread, or if they should bring back the Halo: CE pistol...and the list goes on.
So right now, Bungie is probably thinking how they could satisfy the hardcore gaming community, but at the same time cater to the needs of the casual gaming community. The answer is right here...
Gamers love the ability to customize things. This is a big factor that has made games such as Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 so successful. Halo's map forge is amazing. However, forge does not have to be constrained with only map editing.
What do you guys think of WEAPON FORGE?
- The ability to design the look of your own guns
- Alter the bullet velocity
- Alter the bullet spread (lol)
- Bullet Trajectory
- Weapon Weight
- Melee Damage
- Recoil
- Explosive Damage
- Add secondary functions to a weapon (3 bullet burst or single shot for more accuracy, etc.)
- Silencer, scope
- Amount of auto-aim
- Etc...etc......
Weapon forge would keep both the hardcore gamers and the casual gamers happy. MLG would even be able to create its own unique gun (or set of guns) to be used during competitions. You want the Halo: CE magnum back? Then make it. You want a 3 shot BR rather than a 4 shot? Then make it. These are just examples of what could be done. The possibilities are endless. Bungie could even implement a magnum and a BR into matchmaking.
Please note. I'm not trying to turn this into Call of Duty. Weapon forge could be used in custom games. Matchmaking could use its own standard (pre-made) weapons. It is all up to Bungie. If they want to implement weapon forge into matchmaking, user-made weapons would need to have certain restrictions so that they are not over-powered.
Anyways, this would be a great option to put in Halo:Reach. And if Bungie is smart, then they already have...
