I'm going to get a lot of flame for this.
I've noticed a lot of fanbase for the character Buck from the ODST Campaign storyline, but I'm still looking for legitimate reasons why. Most people will say, "OOMfg he totaly stabped a brutte in the neck", or "He kissed the girl in da end!" Seriously?
To me, Buck is just a crude Hollywood generalization brought on by the ideas of classic action movies. We have the hero, with the disgustingly cliche parted-hair and lingo, exclaiming, "You know the Music, time to Dance." Are you kidding me?
Bungie did a good job with ODST's storyline, but instead of introducing characters with realistic militant personalities, we get those who prefer to make jokes with an ugly excuse for a heroine, (Dare), who I'm sure was put in to the game since Cortana would not be featured, and fanboys needed something to fap to.
Don't take me wrong, I somewhat enjoyed ODST, I just couldn't help but laugh when Buck came bouncing in with Bungie's ridiculous animation software and preceded to make some sort of stereotypical remark on the situation.
But what does this have to do with Halo: Reach? It is presumed that Buck will make an appearance in the game due to his extensive involvement in the Battle of Reach. I wish to express hope that we will see a very changed Buck, one who doesn't feel the need to crack jokes while all Hell is breaking loose around him. The same way you'd expect a hardened war veteran to react.
