Why didn't they just genetically engineer their own babies instead of wasting time searching for the few and stealing them?

Because genetic alteration at such a young age probably would've killed most of the subjects, and I'm sure the UNSC wanted more Spartans than 1 or 2.

I'm talking about when the egg is fertilized (like the movie Gattaca). Plus, they chose the kids because of their genes if I'm not mistaken. Creating compatible babies would be much more efficient than putting innocent kids through gene therapy.

You Shall Not Pass!!!

Well, considering many of the Spartans died or were crippled during the genetic manipulation when they were healthy teenagers, trying that with fertilized eggs probably would have had a far worse effect.

What I'm talking about is genetically engineering babies for the Spartan program, not making them superhuman at birth.

Don't hate... ...loathe.

Spartans in Sparta were done like this. Taken at a young age from there mothers to become solders.

The overall tone of Halo is a grittier science fiction inspired by films like Alien (the art of the ships) that doesn't have large fantisy parts.
