Subject: Are we going to have energy sheilds?

Hi. I'm AlbinoKola1. Currently I am not into Halo. I love to post on the forums though and I will always try to give my best opinion. My goal is to rise in the forum ranks and to have my space cowboy become a familiar symbol. I have one quote that shishka will use. If you send me a message, I'm sorry if I don't respond.

I'm pretty sure Spartans weren't equipped with very good energy sheilds during the time of Reach.

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

Mark IV had no energy shielding. It was the one Samuel wore when he died.
Mark V had shielding. Read the damn book.

Reach takes place almost immediately before the first game. You don't really believe that shield technology was invented on the Pillar of Autumn en route to Halo do you?

dosent glassing start right away; when the Covis show up?
--- just what i saw from the trailer---

Actually i could see that 1/2 of the game you Play without a shield so it a little like ODST and the Other Half you play with shields. oh well i'll see when the game comes out.

MC had his energy shields when he left his Cry-Chamber at the beginning of Halo CE. PoA just got out of Slip-Space, escaping Reach. So, yeah, Spartans would.

By the bye, the Spartans just recieved their Mark V's during this time, so, yeah...

All you need to know can be found in the book "The Fall of Reach" as you may already know.

On page 203 John and the other Spartans(will not go too in depth) ambushed a pack of shield Jackals. They confiscated their plasma weapons and the shield generators on their arms. This took place in reach.

At this point in time they had just recently received their first set of MJOLNIR armor which consisted of

"the armor's shell is a multilayer alloy of remarkable strength. We recently added a refractive coating to disperse incoming energy weapon attacks--to counter our new enemies...Each battlesuit also has a gel-filled layer to regulate temperature; this layer can reactively change in density. Against the skin of the operator, there is a moisture-absorbing cloth suit, and biomonitors that constantly adjust the suit's temperature and fit." Pg.114

So no shields yet.

After they leave the city they go back to where they were first inducted to the spartan training program, a secret facility within reach's crust. Here they are given the details of their mission(which I will not elaborate) and some upgrades. For john this upgrade consists of enhancing the neural implant that all UNSC military personnel have and is given the true form of MJOLNIR armor. The armor he had previously received was "only a fraction of what the armor should be." This is where the armor receives its shields. The technicians analyzed the shield generators that were salvaged from the dead jackals and improved upon the basic concept. They then implemented this improved shield technology to the second creation of MJOLNIR armor. Pg. 249

Basically from there they depart Reach on the Pillar of Autumn and Halo CE begins.

So during the time of Reach they did not have shields, they received them when they were about to depart Reach.

I hope this post was found helpful as I was only trying to clear up when they acquired shield technology.

halo wouldn't be halo with out energy shields

Who knows, maybe the game starts in the "Castle" facility on Reach where we first acquire the shields and they do the little training thing like in all the other games. For example looking at the lit up dots then stepping into the shield generator. I'd be willing to bet that's how the game starts.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

No, we will have pink ponies that sacrifice themselves so we don't die.

  • 10.19.2009 11:19 PM PDT

theres probably going to be shields. there have been since CE and it hasnt realy changed yet other than small tweeks rom game to game.

The Spartans didn't get MJOLNIR armor at CASTLE Base.

Just so you know, the scene you just described took place on Sigma Octanius IV in the city Cote D` Azur
Get your facts straight please.

Spartans had been equipped with Mjolnir Mark V armor complete with shielding prior to the attack and glassing of Reach.

The Chief got his mjolnir variant with shielding on Reach it wasn't necessarily Castle base technically it was military Reservation 01478-B. But it was on Reach, he got it the same time he got an upgrade to his neural interface to allow for the integration of Cortana. This happened at 0600 hours, August 29, 2552. Oh, and by the way the attack on Reach started on August 30, 2552. Less than 24 hours after the Chief and the other spartans received their shielded armor.

I see, yeah, I was just trying to make the point that they got shields on Reach and it was before Reach was attacked. Like right before too. Within 24 hours. So that should answer the question about whether or not we will have shields in the game.

Sorry, i was just skimming the book for the parts I was looking for so I didn't pay too much attention to anything except the details of the armor. Next time I won't include errors.

Bungie makes the game, not the novels. If Bungie wants shields, then there will be shields. Bungie says what happens, not the novels. The novels are for fun, there are loose guidelines that Bungie gives for the novels, and that doesn't mean that the evens in the novels are what Bungie envisioned for the Halo world. Bungie should not and I hope will not be restricted by the novels.
