Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

Bungie makes the game, not the novels. If Bungie wants shields, then there will be shields. Bungie says what happens, not the novels. The novels are for fun, there are loose guidelines that Bungie gives for the novels, and that doesn't mean that the evens in the novels are what Bungie envisioned for the Halo world. Bungie should not and I hope will not be restricted by the novels.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

I do. Does Bungie write the novels? No.
Should Bungie be restricted to what the novels say? No.

Bungie have directly stated that the novels are canon. Sure they can change very minor details but they can't change major things like whether or not Spartans have shields. The books are definitely part of the story and Bungie decided what was to be included in them.

The novels are official canon to the Halo Universe. Everything that happens in the books is directly connected to whatever happens in the games. Bungie has to follow that canon because they chose to make the novels official canon so if they didn't follow the novels they would contradict themselves and belittle the Halo franchise as a result, which they would never do. That being said Bungie could still choose to have shields or no shields by avoiding characters or key elements from the book to prevent a contradiction with the novels. However, I do believe there will be shields as that is a defining feature within Halo's gameplay.
