Subject: Probability of Bungie making Reach a good competitive game.

What do you think the chances are of Bungie actually setting out with the intention of making Halo: Reach a good competitive game? Do you think they will, or will they stay with the mentality of just making a fun, casual game and put no effort into the competitive side? Their attitude as of late makes me worry. Saying things like competitive settings are "watered down" makes me doubt that they care about balance and skill-gap. That sounds like they'd prefer a game full of spraying and trading beat-downs. I really hope they don't do that. However, I have heard that Devs are being told to attend MLG events, so that gives me some hope.

What do you think? Will they make Halo: Reach a better competitive game than Halo 3, or will they stick with the attitude that Halo 3 is perfect and they can do no wrong? Will they attempt to please both sides of the community, or forsake the competitive side?

PS: I'm not going to get into the specific problems with Halo 3 because whenever someone does, Bungie gets defensive and closes the thread and blames flaming. So please, no flaming.

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

Bungie needs to keep halo FUN and not competitive

It can be both.

A large man

I prefer the way they have it now with a competetive playlist for competetive players and a social playlist for players who just want to have fun.

bungie has proven that a bunch of monkeys sitting in front of keyboards can randomly type out a masterpiece. the thing is, when you go to play the masterpiece, you cant help but notice all the monkey s**t smeared all over it.

it gets real old having to wait months for someone like mlg to clean off all the monkey poo.

its a game. the goal is to win, to be better then the opponant. thats where the fun is. you can only run around sticking each other or hammering each other so many times before the novelty wears off.

im not really excited for reach. i dont see bungie taking it in any good direction.

There are those who said this day would never come, what a day to say now.

it'll most likely be just another noobs game.
auto aim that makes ur bullets go backwards and a 2 meter melee lungue.

thats what the masses want, not the competive players, and since we are a minority they will always choose the noobs side.....

... It's halo, i'd say it's going to follow the rules of h3, odst and some of CE (havnt played 2), at least 1 scorpion level, 1 flying level, at least 1 scarab level, end of game will be a race.. etc.

It has to be competitive but appeal to a beginning player. Like how in Gears the best person always seems to come out on top but someone could just start playing the game and immediately start having fun.

I think that Bungie will do what the core of their fans want, and the core is those guys playing the game at the end of its life such as now.

Fun Vs Competitive is kind of a tough argument. I want to see the movement speed and gravity settings moved back in the Halo 2 direction, to allow you to escape bad situations and use agility to your advantage.

The one thing they should definitely do is remove the skill number from the ranking system. This would completely remove the motivation to cheat/boost and clean up the community quite a bit.

People who are good know they are and that number just makes sure they play equally skilled players. People getting higher ranks by less than legit means, would be tired of getting stomped by much better players when there is no visible ego boost for them to boast about. They should keep some sort of military ranking system, based on games played and general skill range like 0-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50 with no number showing of course.

my thoughts exactly

and i hope they will make an interesting campaign like Halo 1, and some huge land battles, and not only in vehicles. It gets lame to sit on a gauss hog or tank and just snipe people in a "big" battle

I'm just a guy like you that plays halo.

Trying yo say H3 wasn't competitive? I would prefer fun over competitive any day (which explains why i'm not trying to get my 50 ever again).

Halo 3 is a decent competitive game, no doubt. I wouldn't play it as much if it wasn't. If it was a complete noobfest I would get bored. But, it can definitely be improved upon. I'm just worried, based on Bungie's recent attitude, that they won't even attempt to improve on it in any way other than maybe graphics and some new gimmick weapons.
