Subject: For Those of You Who Think We Play As Master Chief

"When written in Chinese, the word 'crisis' is
composed of two characters--one represents danger,
and the other represents opportunity."
[JFK]

First of all I think we will be playing as Spartan 259 and perhaps also his squad of Spartans. How do I know this? I watched the trailer.

It is pretty clear from the trailer that you will be playing as a new spartan. The man saying "I need you in that fight Noble one." is most likley not talking about Master Chief because through all the books and games we never heard him referred to as this.

Secondly and most importantly is the Music. I think it is clear that we can tell who the main character is because the symbals come in and while everything is quiet you hear a dramatic voice break into the comm and you hear "This is Sierra 259, you got Spartans on the ground and were not going anywhere." Notice how there is only a holding note and that line is the last thing said in the trailer.

There was no mention of Master Chief or Blue team in the trailer. Although I could be wrong I doubt it.

And on a side note we are not even sure Noble one is S-259 so at this point it could be Noble one or S-259.

noble one is a group of marines...if you dont belive me they say just before he says "we need you in that fight noble one!"

"this is noble one...were holding our ground!"

Well, you explained why the main characters could be Sierra, but you never provided solid reasoning as to why MC won't be in the game. Just because the main character is 259 or 320, doesn't mean MC isn't in the game.

Besides this, I read somewhere that the voice actor for MC hasen't been hired yet for Reach, lemme get that link...
Poor MC..
You might want to add that to your OP, OP.

2 nice finds I thought I'd add.

1. It's not Spartan 259. It's SIERRA 259
2. Sierra=/= Spartan
3. INB4SIERRAISONLYUSEDFORSPARTANS.
4. Sierra has been used to designate marines, http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Combat_Team_Sierra
5. Check my thread for like 10000 reasons on why class II spartans don't exist.

Look, a half monkey half pony monster!

He says nova 1, and I'm sure we definitely won't play as spantan 117, but it is possible we'll be spartan 117!

I still don't understand what a combat team names Sierra and a designation of Sierra have to do with each other. It doesn't prove or disprove anything since they are entirely different contexts. I'm pretty sure MC wasn't a part of Combat Team Sierra.

Not talking about class 2 spartans.
And that is intresting that it is used for marines also. But in this case I have a hunch it is a spartan.

I'm using it as an example to prove that Sierra is just military alphabet. Sierra=/=Spartan, because people are think and think that Sierra MUST mean spartan.

Sierra can also be akin to saying "S" in a clear way, aka S for Spartan. It is very possible that they used that to keep the Covenant from knowing who or what it is. Although the trailer itself almost defeats that when he says, "we've got Spartans on the ground." But still, it is perfectly reasonable to suspect it to be a spartan, since there is no reason to send a bridge/crew security teams to Reach's surface.

There's not a single instance in the canon of the story when Sierra is used to describe a spartan BEFORE the second battle of Earth. Infact, Master chief has no problem announcing that he's a spartan while ON the same Forerunner ship as Truth.

There's hardly any reason to believe that Sierra is code for Spartan the majority of the time.

Has Echo ever been used to Identify Elites? It must be so, since E=Elites. Right?

For the love of... I am not arguing that Sierra = Spartan. I am arguing that Sierra can mean "S", hence S-117 or Spartan 117. It is easier to say and understand in military terms. Anything that is referred to as S can be called Sierra, but there are only so many things that I can think of that start with S in halo. Spirit of Fire and Spartan. So what would it mean then? It obviously isn't anything to do with the bridge defence crew.

I have 2 options Fight and win.... or fight and die

read the books master chief never lands on reach after the covenant attack

But Echo (E) Was used to Identify a pelican, just because it's what the code starts with, doesn't mean what it's the first letter for it's a codename for.

Also, S could be Sniper.

If you read the books than you would know that he actually did.

I didn't say Master Chief was on Reach. Sierra-259 is what was said in the trailer. Not Sierra-117. And I understand that not everything is specifically referred to this way in Halo, but understand that a Pelican would have a preset designation depending on the pilot and mission it was on. This is mostly for arguments sake but honestly the only things we can truly be sure about are things that were described in the books. At this point, the trailer could be anything. Sierra-259 could be code for a traveling circus for all we know.

Its quite simple why we won't play as Master Chief. He fought for about fifteen minutes Reach's orbit to destroy a navigational computer. Yeah, you aren't going to make a videogame about that.

We will be focusing on a group of five unknown spartans, presumably Spartan 259 and Spartan 320 are part of that group.

They were part of the red team that fought to defend the generators on the surface of Reach and presumably dies. Its perfect, because with a group of unknowns, you can create original characters, an interesting story (we've never seen five spartans in a squad fight together, their legendary invincibillity will contrast nicely with their helplessness to stop the world around them from burning), all without trodding on cannon or expanding what few action scenes the books have.

They referred to John 117 as Sierra 117 (Sierra meaning S standing for Spartan). Why wouldn't the same naming convention go for the other spartans?

They have referred to Marines as Sierra as well, why couldn't it of been marines?

I suck for now. Thanx to my balls.

Have you read the Halo: Fall of Reach book AT ALL? Read it and tell me who was there. Who was the main character in that book?

I'm sorry, I didn't know the game was called "Halo: Fall of Reach: Based entirely on the Best Selling Book."

Oh wait, it isn't.

The game will be based on five spartan's experiences of the Battle of Reach. Not on the protagonists of the book doing exactly what they do in the book. That would create a boring game.

Where do they refer to Marines as "sierra"?
